My memory was bad on WTI prices. $22, not $32.  Prices for June delivery are currently a little over $12.

It will probably get worse before it gets better :(

We used to have a joke, "if you're losing a dollar a barrel, how many barrels do you have to run to make a profit? It was usually made in response to the constant push by management to run more barrels, while the economics guys were trying to slow it down.

There's a break point, IE how much it costs to pull a barrel out of the ground, long time ago I remember something like $7, have no idea now.  Bloodbath in the oil market, probably just getting started.

That is kind of my point.  I know what the media and politicians are pushing. I don’t trust them.  For all I know, China could actually look like a scene from the walking dead.  I have no first hand knowledge. But I do know what our local media and politicians have said and it doesn’t match what I am seeing.  As I said in another post, our local government converted our convention center into a medical care facility to handle the overwhelming numbers of covid patients.   There isn’t a single person in the building.

I read someplace that there are now millions of freed up cell phone numbers in China from dropped cell phone plans.  The speculation is that dead people no longer need their cell phone plans.  Have no idea if that's true or not, just something I read someplace.  So it must be true.  Ha!

****EDIT****
Did a quick google search.  It seems to be all over the news;
https://www.kmov.com/why-did-21-million-phone-numbers-disappear-from-china-after-coronavirus-outbreak/article_80456379-e8af-52a8-9366-f8af64b45fd1.html

They aren’t dead. They couldnt work so the cancelled service. Plus it isn’t uncommon to have several phone numbers per person.

Sure maybe a few are dead but that’s definitely not the simplest explanation.

Interesting article.

Nice read ,thanks Doug

Closers and Openers  huh ? LOL

The thing that resonated with me the most is that no matter where you fall on the opener/closer continuum, you should have compassion and respect for those who disagree with you.

People should be confused and going through their own calculus for what makes the most sense to them. If you are hard core one way or the other and denigrate those who question your side, well, I think that is unhelpful and unhealthy.

Thanks for the read.  Yes there is a “higher calling” than choosing a side and dismissing the other.  We all have different histories that lead us to our identity for what we believe, as do the “others” that believe differently.  I struggle with simple economic destruction and cannot blame anyone for it because it is distracting from loving those right in front of me.  My mind is hopeful and new creative angles are growing for providing protection and provision for my family.  These channels get interrupted if I’m wasting my mind and heart picking a side and proving my belief to what end?  Bottom line, learn to give and receive in balance and nothing wrong with unmeasured sacrifice.  This includes conversations as a possibility of giving desperate people a good word because hugs and handshakes, fist bumps and elbows are off limits right now.  Be well this day and guard your thoughts... :smt006

This isn’t strictly an internet phenomenon although the relative anonymity provided in a lot of the darker corners plus the ability of many to type and post on the internet what they would be uncomfortable saying to someone’s face makes the internet - especially in the echo chambers created by self selecting ones online peers - a particularly troubling vehicle for self expression.

But I get your point. I’m overly optimistic about my own capacity to step out of my own echo chamber, of which the article I linked is quite reflective, and overly pessimistic about the state of civility in the world in general.

So I spew mental diarrhea across these pages instead in a vain and doomed effort to maintain my own sanity and hope for the world.

Yeah, I’m new here.

Crash I was just kidding you back for the exact comment. All good and yes I agree that our ability to see past our own self interests are tested on a regular basis. Now is the time for compassion and understanding.

I know why you posted it, and it was funny and well timed.

I used to stop by after work for a few drinks and Robert Stagnero would tell stories from back in his young days. Great memories!
