Sorry Spiffy, and everyone.  Gilda's Restaurant on the Wharf announced they will not be re-opening.

Sad to hear. I fear there will be many many more sad stories.

That's a bummer. Hope Phil's doesn't do the same.

I think Phil's owns the building?  But Gilda's had to lease from the city of Santa Cruz (or, the people's Republic of) Leases are two years only and go up up up....Sad. I used to work there as breakfast cook, I remember big surf days where the shole wharf swayed, waitress had to go home seasick.

I’m hitting our favorite cafe at least once a day for coffee drinks you can only get in Italy, great deals on wines, pastas etc, they were even selling the toilet paper and furniture thinking they would have to close

They’re hanging on with a small staff of great people who run all the same risks as cashiers at the grocery store. Higher infection control standards than in hospital ICUs right now

If I go there tomorrow and they’re closed it won’t come as a huge surprise, a bunch of our local businesses are done for good, and all the jobs with them.

We normally cook at home most of the time, home food is the best

Under the circumstances we’re getting as much restaurant food as we can reasonably afford to

I'm supporting our local eateries as much as possible too.  Some are closed and have since the start of the stay in place are trying, but it is hurting the owners to not be able to open the doors.

Talking to some of them they are not just afraid of tomorrow but when they are allowed to open since the majority believe they will be restricted to seating.  Most restaurants are barely scraping by and a forced reduction on capacity will sink them.  The only way out is a reduction in the lease, but there isn't much hope there.

IMO, Our neighborhood restaurants and stores are going to be one of the many casualties of the shutdown.

Hopefully everyone on this forum is smart enough to know that drinking cleaners, disinfectants, etc. is not going to kill covid but it could kill you.  Not even sure why it needs to be mentioned other than Trump suggested it as a possible way to cure the disease.  I get that he is trying to promote an optimistic viewpoint especially when the mainstream media is promoting doom and gloom.  My guess is that he will back off of that suggestion today if he has not done so already.

Are you saying Trump suggested drinking cleaners and disinfectants or that the media claimed that he said it? I assumed the post by Nolanduke was tongue in cheek, I know mine was.

He didn't suggest it.  Some word salad came out of his mouth during one of his incoherent of-teleprompter off-script ramblings.  If you got anything out of it, you were looking for it, because it was definitely incoherent.
