Let’s have a good winter thread.

I have a trip planned in April that may or may not happen. I have theater tickets that may or may not be good. I have to wipe my ass and it’s hard to find toilet paper for some stupid reason.

I’ve already dropped $8k on this trip, not sure how much I can recoup at this point if I ultimately can’t go.

The sharks are playing to an empty arena, Giants preseason game against the A’s is cancelled.

Economic impacts are starting. This all strikes me as panicked insanity.

How are you all impacted?

Stock Market is all over the place.

Up and down 1000+ points almost daily.

No rhyme or reason to the daily volatility  :smt009

Below are one month charts of the NYSE, Nasdaq and Dow.

They’ve all taken a pounding and have hit around their 52 week lows.

I work at a bay area public high school. There has been a lot of talk of school closures and how we would provide instruction remotely. This will be interesting to monitor as I do not believe schools would be able to re-open for the remainder of the 2020 school year, numbers of infected individuals will almost certainly continue to rise in the coming months, making it difficult for closed schools to justify re-opening.

Selfishly, there is also concern that if infected with CVID, the mandatory two week quarantine would come out of sick leave reserves, for those with insufficient sick leave, this may result in a loss of pay. Lots to sort out still and I'm sure the union would lobby for guaranteed pay and preservation of sick time, but I will be watching intently for now.

I've also naturally wondered about the closure of my daughters pre-school. Hopefully they don't enact a closure before my school does, otherwise the wife and I will need to use more sick time to provide child care as we have no other viable options or available family members to cover in the event of a closure... :smt012

We have customers calling and cancelling tours and asking us if we are still open. Haver a big trip to Hawaii in June hopefully this all blows over by then. But now with SJ Airport having 3 TSA agents that tested positive I am worried flights are going to be fully cancelled

In the time since I posted this thread the Seattle city schools announced a two week closure.

How far down this rabbit hole do we go?

My daughter attends a UC and they are beginning to close them for the remainder of the school year.  Classes will continue online.  Not sure how this plays out with her dorm cost and meal plan.  Should know more soon.

My son is at Travis...... he is flying a lot and that is not slowing down....

On the home front, no work closure and just the same problem with buying simple things like soap an TP.  I can't wrap my head around the TP panic buying.  Can anyone explain this?

There’s a good chance our trip to Greece in two weeks will be cancelled. SFSU where my kid attend has closed down classes in campus. But hey all this talk about the virus just made me want to go crabbing at Doran

Marin is closing a large number of schools and our county health dept is “suggesting” cancelling all meetings over 100 people.  My wife is going to Costco now for regular purchases and I hope it’s not many rude people.  I’m not drinking the koolaid  but certainly looking for good news to comfort curious fearful people.  My kids haircut business seems to be a ok for now.  Wiping stuff down and trippin’ on snotty noses is standard practice in this biz...hope you recoup more than you think.  Warren would’ve paid for all our financial losses.... :smt005...be well...

Apparently supply chains from China that produce this item “could be”  disrupted?
