Novel Coronavirus impacts

Hopefully everyone on this forum is smart enough to know that drinking cleaners, disinfectants, etc. is not going to kill covid but it could kill you.  Not even sure why it needs to be mentioned other than Trump suggested it as a possible way to cure the disease.  I get that he is trying to promote an optimistic viewpoint especially when the mainstream media is promoting doom and gloom.  My guess is that he will back off of that suggestion today if he has not done so already.

Are you saying Trump suggested drinking cleaners and disinfectants or that the media claimed that he said it? I assumed the post by Nolanduke was tongue in cheek, I know mine was.

Initial comments

After Bill Bryan, the head of the science and technology directorate at the Department of Homeland Security, presented the findings of the federal government's study on sunlight, humidity and temperature's effect on the coronavirus -- as well as various disinfectants on the virus when it is on surfaces -- Trump reacted to the comments.

"Question that probably some of you are thinking of if you're totally into that world, which I find to be very interesting. So supposing we hit the body with a tremendous, whether it's ultraviolet or just very powerful light. And I think you said that hasn't been checked but you're going to test it," Trump said, looking over to Bryan. "And then I said, supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way. And I think you said you're gonna test that, too. Sounds interesting, right?"

He continued: "And then I see the disinfectant where it knocks it out in a minute. One minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or, or almost a cleaning? Because you see it gets on the lungs and it does a tremendous number, so it will be interesting to check that. So that you're going to have to use medical doctors. But it sounds, it sounds interesting to me. So we'll see.

Hopefully cities and counties will be able to start opening up the economy soon. California has been in lockdown long enough (6weeks) that we should be beyond the worst of this. I don’t advocate that we all start getting on planes but there needs to be a common sense solution that allows our daily lives to start returning to normal.

MY OPINION is that much of this is now much more political than public safety. When it first started the guidelines made some sense but we are beyond that in MY OPINION

I don’t advocate that we all start getting on planes but there needs to be a common sense solution that allows our daily lives to start returning to normal.

It certainly seems political because those advocating for strict closure and those advocating to open immediately are split upon previously defined ideological lines pretty neatly.  Whether that means it is actually political or not, its the same people and almost nobody has switched dugouts.  They even use the same political rhetoric. 

Non-doctors are allowed to have opinions.  Following the orders and advice of your local public health officials is obviously the best course of action.  If you want to be more restrictive than your local officials recommend or require that's up to you.
