After the fishing, I think we should have a chili cook-off between Ben and Bob  :smt002

Gah!  :smt013 What's with all of these fishing tournaments falling on the same dates as karate tournaments I'm supposed to attend?   :smt009  First the HMB tourney falls on the day I'm hosting our annual tournament at De Anza, and now the MBK tourney falls on the day we're ending the 2006-07 NCKL season in San Francisco (that's Northern California Karate League).  At this rate I'll never get to fish a NCKA tourney!  :sad11:

I wonder if my students will compete without me being there...  :smt017

Pete, NCKA membership rules clearly specify that if you do not attend at least one our tournaments within a calendar year, your kayak will be impounded and later used to troll for sharks in Ano Nuevo by the Shark Research Institute of Northern California  :smt025

Gee Mooch, if you want to borrow my Outback all you need to do is ask!  I might even have a spare right-handed reel you can borrow while you're trolling for sharks.

Looking forward to the tourney. I just posted some info about hotels in the area on another thread on this board...just in case anyone is planning to spend the night.

MBK supported closing parts of the ocean to us, it is a matter of public record. they are trying to have it both ways, sell products to both the supporters of the mlpa AND the opponents of the mlpa.  i choose NOT to ATTEND! :smt012  you guys should consider supporting a business that serves your interests, not one that opposes the very viability of your passion!
i am off to elk now,  the kayak store in Ukiah [GWKC] loves kayak fishing, Sean is on the stakeholder group SUPPORTING kayak anglers in the face of the mlpa.  you should consider steering your business there or perhaps another angler friendly store, outback adventures or someone else.

All of the proceeds ($30 entry fee) are being donated to the Monterey Bay Salmon and Trout Project, a VERY worthy cause. If somebody felt like MBK's 'supposed' stance against fishing was offensive then they shouldn't shop there. Its that easy.
The real enemy of sport fishing is the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Seriously. But thats another thread.

Here's my 0.02

First, I don't see why every tourney has to be exclusively for a charity.  While we normally do it that way, people get plenty of value for their money at a good event, and shouldn't expect the organizer to recieve zero for there efforts.  Putting on a good event is a LOT of work. The "promotional benefit" to the organizer, at least for us, has not even come close to penciling out.  The charity model is well establish here, but in other fisheries, such as LMB, its not the case, and I believe there is middle ground.  We love doing events, but I for one can't afford to continue doing them at a loss.

As to whether on not MBK is anti-fishing or not might be subject to debate, but all you have to do is read the reg. info on their site to see that they simply do'nt get it.  They call a license a "permit" which while technically correct, its not what any of us call it.  More telling though is their statement that they won't rent any boats to participants of their own event.  Apparently fishing is too yucky for their rental fleet.

All that said, if me and Jelly can make it, I'd like too.  As someone who put these on, it means we rarely get a chance to be a participant.  I would like a chance to "fish to win" despite MBKs half-hearted committment to get in yak fishing.
