you guys got me wondering if I SHOULD BE DROPPIN DOWN $$ and driving 2+hrs for a couple of hotdogs(maybe burgers?) to support something/one that is not FULLY COMMITTED to actual KAYAK FISHING....isn't that what WE ALL DO?...and they won't rent-out there own stuff for the event?.......I usually don't think about this kinda stuff, BUT if the people who know ALOT about this, are "THROWING CAUTION TO THE WIND"

WHUTS REALLY GOING ON THERE??

Bah.

I say if you (everyone) want to go and hang out with a bunch of cool ass people and have a good time fishing then just go to the tournament and forget about the politics of it all!

In Loving Memory of Mooch, Eelmaster, Shicken, and Cabeza De Martillo

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

Bottom line, I'll be there to support the Salmon and Trout Restoration project (which I have always done in the past) and if MBK will not rent their kayaks out to participating kayak fishermen, send me a PM coz I can bring an extra one for ya.

Since an Ocean Kayak will be the price, I cannot participate but I will still make the donation and show-up and fish with my NCKA family.

All of the proceeds ($30 entry fee) are being donated to the Monterey Bay Salmon and Trout Project, a VERY worthy cause.

I agree that the salmon and trout project are very good causes. I however have not seen on paper where 100% of the proceeds will go to the project.

Just remember that some of the areas we will fish this year will be closed next year due the MLPAs. I'll see you guys out there but if I need gear I'll be talking to Sean or Kayak Connection.

...and hanging with the boys while having a chance to win a free boat.  The price of the tourney is less than the price of gas I will spend getting there.

Adam, not throwing caution to the wind, just looking for an opportunity to enjoy participating myself.  I get plenty of politics in my day job.  Maybe they'll get the message and clarify their position.

SCAllen stated previously that the entry fees are going to the MBSTP so that's good enough for me.  IMO, participating in this tourney isn't necessarily supporting MBK.  You could always choose to buy from other kayak companies with proven records of supporting fishing (GWKC, Kayak Connection, and others) until you feel comfortable MBK isn't playing both sides of the issue.

By having a good turnout, perhaps MBK will see that kayak fishing is a valuable market and our interests will become their interests.

That said, I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to make this one...  :smt011

Well said Kevin! I'm hoping this event will bring a lot of NCKA here to Monterey and help support the Salmon and Trout Restoration project. This should be the main focus of the group. I'm really looking forward to meeting many of the NCKA members. I just hope we can put our political agenda's aside for this one event and see what direction it takes us. Thank you very much SCAllen for your help in putting this together. Here's to a great turnout. :smt002

Ben
P.S. Hope you can make it Kevin.
