I'm tired of seeing and dealing with this so I have decided to lay low till the smoke clears. At least someone misses me.

I have been super busy and have not had the time to deal with all of this right now. My decision is I don't need controversy clouding my head too. I like to stay positive these days.

Look, if it helps please allow me to withdraw my desire to add SUPs to the approved watercraft list for AOTY.
The last thing I would want is to add undue stress to one of my bros regarding a fun fishing tournament.
So just relax and know that I won't be bringing this up again.

Jim, show me where the suggestions were considered, voted on, and approved and I'll shut my trap.  But year after year I see the same thing happen.  People that want to voice their opinions get shot down and ridiculed as if their thoughts and suggestions aren't valid or somehow feel that discussing it detracts from fundraising efforts.  That's what i'm tired of Jim.

Dang, I missed a lot of stuff today! Sorry for the late reply, but I was forced to do actual work today, at work.
But the truth is THE COMMITTEE DISCUSSED ALL OF THESE PROPOSED CHANGES...from paddleboards to lakes outside the boundaries to new species to point-deductions for open mouths...and everything in between. But we did not agree to implement any changes this year. Most were split decisions or unanimously rejected. So it seemed unnecessary to make a post stating such. Maybe that was thoughtless, but it wasn't intentional. I take this competition very seriously. And I consider all proposed rule changes. This is a community-driven competition so we value input from our members. Please don't think I/we are ignoring you.


But to repeat, there are NO CHANGES for 2016 AOTY.

As of right now, the deadline for proposing changes to 2017 AOTY is December 20. If there are any changes for 2017, they will be announced on December 31.

Well I for one am I'm glad to hear that at least peoples opinions mattered enough to discuss them at least.  But you might be able to tell from the peoples posts over the last few days that holding that information back was not the best of ideas.  Basically it comes off to the casual observer that people are wanting change, but no one is listening.  Even if no changes are made, it's nice to hear that they were at least considered.  Having an open dialog of the changes and definitive date for them to be discussed and decided on is paramount to a community-driven competition.  Having a difference of opinion shouldn't be considered some sort of personal attack against someone that differs, for all those that think it's bashing to have a difference of opinion.  But as long as people are fair to one another, not trying to extort the rules or stretch their limits, the competition will be fun to participate in.  It's when there is ambiguity around things that people have a lot of passion that emotions and frustrations rise.  I've tried to discuss these things several times, over the past few years but always feel like I've been shot down, or never fully answered and I'm just really... really tired of it.

Al, I agree with what you're saying. I would like to see committee members voted for each year in November. This could precede the introduction of any possible rule modifications in December.

Creating polls that anyone can vote on is useless since people can vote that don't invest the time, $, or stoke to fuel the AOTY fire.
They shouldn't have any say in altering the tourney.

I think only people that spent time playing AOTY, people that have posted fish & enjoyed the game, should be elgible to be nominated. The current committee members certainly qualify. But there's no reason why they should be allowed to reign indefinitely. Unless that's what Allen wants of course.

Also I do think that just like the AOTY sail division there's no reason not to allow SUP's for one year to see what will happen. Guaranteed non-issue.

The rigidity of the current committee regarding SUP's isn't exactly a breath of fresh air. Time for some new committee members.
I look at the last couple years of AOTY players & I see plenty of people I would nominate.
