I feel guilty now   . As soon as Pig season is over I will sign up. I think about it often, Yet I still haven't got my license. I look forward to Donating to the site because the madness runs deep in all of us. The site needs $. U tell us How, when, and/or where Chief. We'll be there to support NCKA

I love supporting AOTY, I made 13th twice, last year I only posted one fish, and I hade some big fish, I just like the idea of supporting such a cool event. I'll post fish this year if I ever get out, it's been tough so far.
How about an arts and crafts auction event, proceeds going to NCKA. Lots of artists here would gladly participate, I'll do fish fossils and oils...

It's an interesting concept to pay to not see the ads.

Well, you can't have it both ways, can you? 

But it would take some careful consideration of direct advertisers who pay to have their ads be seen.

I don't want to overstate a problem with advertising. I personally don't mind ads directly related to the site subjects at all. I only find the Google ads mildly annoying, but worth a few bucks a year to avoid (though this ad blocker thing seems to be working pretty well  ).

Broadly speaking (very broadly), I think a lot of people contributing small amounts, even with a heavy handed donation model, is more validating of the site's worth than a relatively few people paying for AOTY.

Maybe rather than calling it a donation, it could be for a "Premium" membership which includes no Google ads . I'm not sure what other benefits, if any, would accrue, but it would be a slightly different approach.

Maybe AOTY should be Free, if a general fundraiser will bring in more revinue to the site.  I'd really like to see many more people signed up for AOTY just for the fun of it.  It's gotten way too serious for me... But I did pay for it recently to be a site supporter, because I love NCKA. 

That's the way I feel about it too. I'm not in AOTY  for the competition, but for supporting the NCKA site.
I'll still post up pics though. Gotta catch em first.

ITs actually pretty darn simple. We should start having an annual fee of 20 bucks for participation on the site. With 365 days in the year what is that anyway?

Have I told you how much I hate Tapatalk.  Hah!  Very little control over it.  I think they have the ability to put up some limited advertising, but I've found it to be very hard to work with.

Last year I thought I was going to try for AOTY.  Well,  I didn't catch my first fish till May,  and then they were disqualified because the mouth was open.  So I caught some more and they were disqualified because I caught them on an AI.  Too many rules.  I like catching my fish and then lying about how big they were.  If I post on AOTY, the truth will come out.  Here is an oxymoron: truthful fisherman.  I support the site, but can't get serious about points and competition.

Well said Allen and thanks for all that you do! Hope an alternative way of keeping the site up & running can be found if AOTY participation stays low this year. It's too bad some have seen fit to bad mouth AOTY the way they have but what's done is done now. Unfortunately rule #12 doesn't keep non-participants from bashing AOTY.

I'm willing to help organize an annual fundraiser event. I don't got a lot of money or spare time...but I got mad love for the NCKA.   

Why not just have one annual tournament with the proceeds dedicated to NCKA?. One of the popular existing ones would work. 

Forget it, leave the history in the quotes or what not as I will delete my post, rationale discussion about AOTY is clearly not possible.

I think it's time to get over it and let it go.   It's the continuous bellyaching, never ending whining that draws negative reactions from people.  Seems to me a rational discussion does not entail ragging on every chance you get when the deciding bodies disagree with you. 

Totally agree, and just sent Allen a PM.  I need a time out, and totally deserve it.

Play AOTY. It can be fun.
