Annual fundraiser event...like a dinner or potluck style @ $20/person. All proceeds go to the site. We do these type of fundraiser events for other clubs I belong to. But they usually do it at a nice restaurant and charge $50/person. They way NCKA rolls/cooks/potlucks, we could maximize our funds by doing it @ a less-expensive venue [like a park or a beach] and we could provide the food, instead of paying somebody to cook for us!
I would totally throw in $20 for a kickass fundraiser event. And I bet there's at least another 40 members who would do the same. That's $800 minus overhead (park or beach reservation). Heck, maybe that's what the PIF event could morph into?

I gotta buy a hog trough anyway so will order one shortly.

I think the $20 fundraiser potluck is a kick ass idea.

I have not entered this years AOTY competition since i does require a massive effort in to compete. I do understand the need to raise revenue but since it is a competition for prizes the it does not look like it covers the cost of the prizes. Maybe if the  entry fee would put in for a general raffle for a huge prize I would be more inclined to enter. I find I am more relaxed fishing this year knowing that I don't have to deal with a camera on the water( especially since I lost it the first weekend out) and don't feel bad when I actually go fishing in a boat  or from the shore :smt003. I really hate dealing with the camera and getting the lip closed and laid flat. I seem to always even forgot to take a picture till after I have cleaned and taken home and by then shrinkage has occurred.  :smt005  It is all about enjoying time on the water in any way you can. Just my 2 cents.

I have no problems with the ads.  It's a free site!  I pay no membership fee and get unlimited amounts of fishing education and entertainment.  I'm on this site more than I watch TV.

I entered AOTY like others to catalog my catches, be an active participant and support the NCKA.

Thanks to all that make this happen!

Maybe AOTY should be Free, if a general fundraiser will bring in more revinue to the site.  I'd really like to see many more people signed up for AOTY just for the fun of it.  It's gotten way too serious for me... But I did pay for it recently to be a site supporter, because I love NCKA.  :smt002

ITs actually pretty darn simple. We should start having an annual fee of 20 bucks for participation on the site. With 365 days in the year what is that anyway?

I've said this before, and I'll say it again, NCKA will always be free.   Any support from members is completely voluntary, and one would/should not be looked down upon for choosing not to.  I just believe that the doors it would close would far outweigh any benefits that we may stand to gain from it.

Of course if NCKA means enough to someone to find it in their heart to support the site, then you have my gratitude, and the gratitude of everyone else that gets anything out of this site.  Thanks!

2 cents from guy who is less than year on this wonderful board:

I think DOTY and AOTY are good fundsraising sources. Ads - couple times these ads helped me to save some $$.

I think annual raffle and simple direct donate paypal link should be added, but board membership should be free.

store: I'm not he first and I'm not he last - we want cups, hats, shirts and howdies. I understand that this requires super effort, but can we use CafePress for some simple items?

I am not new to kayak fishing but i am new to the site. I immediately saw what the NCKA and this site is. I knew I was going to put in on AOTY  and was more than happy to donate the 40 bucks. This site provides nothing but an all around enrichment to my life. Up to date fishing reports by real fishermen in my areas? Come on! Hookups with cool people? Camping and fishing trips? Humor? It's all here and free. And the AOTY adds a little excitement everytime I'm on the water (plus gives me an excuse to get out more hehe :smt003

I've said it before, this place feels like home and i immediately felt the brotherhood.
I was more than happy to donate for AOTY and purchase the Hawg trough from Allen. I couldn't be happier. If you have read this and you haven't put in for AOTY, you should. Support the site!

Of course you mean Kayak Angler Magazine.  FWIW, KayakFishingMagazine.net (KFM) does not charge for subscriptions.  Speaking of which, should you wish to subscribe to KFM, go to http://www.kayakfishingmagazine.net/ and you'll see a place to subscribe to our newsletter in the right column.  And while you're at it, like us on facebook too ... https://www.facebook.com/KayakFishingMagazine .  Supporting KFM indirectly supports NCKA, as I run them both.  And I'm currently in the proces of combining servers in order to save costs.

If you guys think a donate Paypal link is worthwhile, I'll certainly consider putting one up.  Or you can just sign up for AOTY and donate $40.   :smt002

Understood!  And will be working on this.  Regarding cafepress, the feedback I've received is that their quality is sub-par.  I'd rather "do it right".

The AOTY donation is the best $40 I spend in a year...I get to support the site, I get to catalog my catches, I get to challenge myself to seek out new waters/species, and I have FUN doing it.  The ads don't bother me one bit, and I'll echo the comments of others that as soon as the NCKA hoodie/coolie cups/beanies/etc. hit the store I'll be all over it.  Thanks for all you do to keep this site up and running guys!
