Looks like I can make it...This will be by first NCKA event...Can someone chime in with the event details....Do we all just show up and fish? What time? Are there rules? Where are people launching, looking for some info....I will be heading up late Sat night and will crash for a few hours in my car so any help would be appreciated.

Eric,

I'm sure Brian will chime in soon with the final details.  I'm assuming it is similar to last year where we met at the Glory Hole launch ramp (between 5 & 5:30) to check in and then everybody had the opportunity to go their own way.  Most went to Angel's creek and Brian and myself fished the main body.  Also, the event lasted from 6 to 2:30 last year.

Here is the link to last years event.
http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,10709.0.html

There are a couple changes from last year though.  This year there won't be an entry fee and thus no winning pot.  But there will be a prize for first place! Yippeee!  Also, the lunch will be potluck although nobody has spoken up about what they are bringing.  Maybe that will happen when Brian arranges the final details.

Look forward to meeting you.

Michael

As I mentioned in a previous thread, I wrote an email to Glory Hole Sports, which is the bait shop at the entrance to Melones, looking for some updated fishing information.  Well, I heard back from Melanie who I believe operates GHS.  Below is my original email and 2 responses from her.

To Whom it May Concern,

Myself and about a dozen kayakers from all over Northern California will be invading Melones next Sunday, December 14, and I was wondering if you had any recent info for us in regards to trout fishing.  I checked your website and the latest fishing report, from November 24, seemed to indicate that the fish were spread out.  Might you have some updated info to help us zero in on a location as we obviously can't cover as much water as some of the powerboats that fish the lake.  Any information is greatly appreciated!

In the event that you're interested, here is a link to our get together:  http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,15362.0.html

Thanks again for any and all help,

Michael Dilbeck

I update The fishing report once a week, on Wednesday (I write it on Monday).  Your best bet for getting the most up-to-date fishing info is to come into the store.  Right now they are heavily planting Melones (due to the fact that most other bodies of water in the Sierras are now off-limits for planting), and we can usually figure out where the latest plant was, and show you the best spots on our map.  WE can also tell you what lures are working.

So come in and see us- we also have a great deli, and good fresh coffee.  Oh- and cold beer!

And her second reply a few hours later:

I realized that I never updated the web site last week- oops!  Sorry!

I updated it today, with last week's and this week's info.  Check out the recent pictures!  When primarily planters are being caught, it's hard to convince most anglers to let us take their picture (they think we only need pictures of big, huge fish).  Anyway, there have been plenty more with limits like the ones in the pictures.  Mostly caught bank-fishing.  You can troll or still-fish in the same areas from your kayaks.

I was hoping for more information but I guess some is better than none.  Unfortunately those of us arriving the day of the event won't be able to visit the store for info as they won't be open, so hopefully somebody that makes a weekend out of it will do the dirty work.  Calling Mooch and others ...  :smt008

Hope this info helps!  Here is their webpage again if anybody wants to check it out.

Michael

PS - The current weather forecast calls for rain  :smt011  so dress appropriately.  Heck, they may even have snow during the middle of next week.  Thankfully we'll be gone.

Good luck gentleman, I am officially out of action for a few weeks. Some may be happy to hear I will not be there but victory is never as sweet until you dethrone the champion.  :smt005 Forecast for Sunday is for snow down to 2000 ft and rain below so bring your foul weather gear. The good news is that those conditions shouldn't affect trout fishing. In fact, some of my best days trout fishing has been when it is raining or snowing. Go out there and slay them for me.  :smt001

We're on for this weekend. I reserve the right to call it off due to adverse weather for saftey concerns. Dress warm, they are predicting 30% chance of snow. I'll bring hotdogs and fixings for the potluck.

Rules:

Meet at the Glory Hole launch ramp area to sign a waiver. I'll be there 6:30 to 7:00. Sunrise is at 7:10.
Measure in at 1:00 PM at the Glory Hole launch ramp area. Photo of measured fish laying on kayak with hog trough or tape measure allowed.

Largest trout wins.

Prize:

Shakespeare Agility IM-8 (ASP 6056 2L) and Okuma Epixor EF 20a valued ~$100 combo

Hi Eric :

My Wife wasn't too happy when I told her about the fishing trip because,
I went up to Ft. Bragg over Thanksgiving.
I'll need a rain check and another pay check before I plan to try out your
Yak.
                                                                           Good Luck

I am now commitment-free Fri thru Sunday.  Mooch, want to camp Friday night, too?  Might as well make the most of the weekend.

I haven't decided on food provisions yet, but I will bring something tasty.

Good Luck to all the participants. And Thanks for putting this event on, Brian. Very generous.

I have been monitoring this thread, hoping to join the fun. But I've got scheduling conflicts....a 3-year-old's bday party on Sunday. (And believe me, I tried to weasel out of it! No dice.)

Good luck everybody!

I got the combo at retail. For next year I know who to ask for a little help.

I have one EZ up, if anyone else has one to bring for the day it would be awesome.
