Starting to get amped up about this event.
Did some checking on the weather and it looks like Sunday should be sunny but chilly - high of 55. :cold   It is supposed to sprinkle on Saturday and full-on-rain Monday.  It could be interesting as the forecast will most assuredly change as we get closer.

Also looked at the latest fishing report, from Nov. 24, on the Glory Hole website and they claim that the lake has already turned over.  Seems a little soon to me but with the cold spell we just went through, I'd definitely have to think it is close if in fact it hasn't already happened.  This coming week calls for the highs to be in the high 50s and low 60s and lows to be in the high 30s and low 40s.

Also, if the big boys don't come out to play, there should be at least some catching going on because the DFG looks to be hitting Melones hard with plants.

Where will most people launch?  Angel's Cove like last year?  Anybody up for launching at the 49 bridge?  Or even the Parrot's Ferry Bridge, provided there is access.

Michael

I SOOO wish I could make it!!
It's still a little early for those big trout, so BE SURE and bring some jointed rapalas and some of those "Bass Plastics", purple craws, and "pumpkin" senkos, in the 3-4 inch variety, for the various bass species...I hope bass count for something out there!...Otherwise those trout are running the shoreline at 10-20 feet, looking for shad looking stuff (FINALLY)...Be aware the lake is WAY DOWN!...

OH MAN!!!! Have some fun out there folks! (My personal "Depression" SUCKS BIG TIME!).

I'll get compa out there one of these days...LUCK TO ALL! (It's SO LOW)

My wife is having some health problems and it looks like I will have to miss this trip. Won't know for sure till the day before the event.

Sorry to hear about the wife Scott.  Hope things are OK and she is on the mend.  I'm not good for much, but let me know if there is anything I can do.  Would love to see you at the event but take care of the wife, she comes first!

Michael -

Thank you for your thoughts and kind words. I mentioned this to Pat today but the crossing to the dam area and spillway can be tough when the wind and waves pick up. I went out there last year and there were white caps on my way back. You probably won't have a problem with your Hobie but I would check the weather conditions before heading out there. The Angels Creek Arm is less exposed and better for kayaking, IMO however I don't know how the fishing is. I have also launched from under the bridge and it is also a good paddling area but sometimes a long upstream paddle to where the fish are. Good luck!

Yeah, I did the dam thing last year with Brian figuring that we wouldn't get quantity but the chance for a pig - needless to say we got nuttin and had to like it.  Just like you said, the wind and waves were unreal.  I've pretty much ruled that out this year and will most likely follow the majority - probably to Angel's Creek - but we'll have to wait and see.

I'm off to fisherman's warehouse this morning to get the trout combo. We're going to have a blast as long as the Mooch doesn't catch all the fish Saturday morning on us  :smt044

I'll post of the final details tonight for everyone.

Wow, that is super cool Eric.  Thanks for stepping up.  And big ups to Brian G too.  No entry fee AND a prize for first place.  Are you sure we shouldn't kick down some scratch?

The updated weather report says the rain should hold off until Tuesday so that is good news. :smt007   Still going to be cold though.

On a side note, I sent an email to Glory Hole Sports regarding an updated fishing report and will post if I get a reply.

I have a tent campsite reserved, and can have one additional vehicle guest and/or a tent since I'll be sleeping in my truck...

Where/when is everyone meeting up?

I hope to get up in time to do some fishing Sat, then bail Sunday after the bout...  not sure if I can stay for the potluck Sunday since it's a long drive home but anyone staying over sat is welcome to chill/potluck.

Mooch, sounds good.  The nice lady didn't give me a site number, but sounds like at this time of the year we'll have our pick.

3069 Hwy 49 South, Angels Camp, CA, right across from the Glory Hole.

I'm pretty sure that's angels camp RV Park.  see my earlier post for hyperlinks.  You'll find that the place is pretty empty or just plain empty.  I recall being the only one there last year.  Great facilities for very reasonable prices.  They have a great outdoor kitchen with 8 cooking stations, under an octagonal roof.  Could throw down a serious saturday night cook off.  other neat features include on-site ostrich/emu petting zoo, hot showers, flush toilets, freezer/fridge, TV, microwave.  The cabin i got would sleep 3 comfortably (full size and two bunk twins) with baseboard heater and electricity.  If I can sneak away for the night and Sun, that's where I'm staying before the 'Bout.  I'd be happy to split a room but at those low rates, why bother!   :smt044

Ernie,
You know you're welcome to try it out (pending someone purchasing it). Are you going to stay the weekend or just the day?
