Hopefully I won't be sitting in my hotel room listening to channel 68 and eating Theraflu!   :smt009  I got hammered last night by the horrendous crud that's going around up here and feel like grade A certified dog crap right now...  At least it didn't hit me the day before the trip.   :smt010

Do a little get-well fish dance for me, wouldya?   :smt006  I should be OK by next week, but I'm nervous about it...

Sorry to hear about that,

It's probably too late now but if your doctor had prescribed an antiviral (I use Flumadine), and you have it on hand and take it within 16 hours of the first onset of flu symptoms, it can pretty much stop the progression of symptoms.  You would still feel a little weak but the fever, sweats, chills GI symptoms are pretty much blocked.  Losing even a day from the office costs me big time, so I always keep some available.

Awwww....walk it off Abking! Or, should I say "paddle it off!"? LOL!

Hobie, I am not very good at organizing potluck type things so its fine w/me if you want to starta  thread about what food to bring.
And RE: 'chokes....I grow my own. They grow REAL good in Marina...bigger than my head! Unfortunately, they're just about the only thing that grows well in the fog-city that is my backyard.

Stoked that alien is going too. Don't forget your perching gear, there are big redtails there!

And thanks Scott...I guess my reputation precedes me when it comes to beer LOL!

T Minus 1 week until The Madness invades The Cove!

I will bring enough chokes for all but I have headed home with a dozen cold cooked ones before as not everyone eats them the way I do  :smt003 .  Does anyone have a head count or estimate?  A dozen was a rough guess.  We had six NCKAers last year.

Eric, I feel for you, I am jsut getting over it after just under two weeks.  I hope you get better faster than me, I was really weak eventhough feeling better after one week of it.  Sudafed and Niquil for me but it did stick around.  The first few days were the worst.

Alright Alex and Ark, way to rally this will be big fun.

PK how much room will we have for firewood?

Thanks for the advice, Dr. Doug.  I'm riding it out with water and good nutrition when I can work up an appetite...

Thanks for the sympathy, PK!   :smt005  Tough love is a good policy - I'll remember it if you get skunked on the water!   :smt003

Food-wise, sounds like it'll be an awesome potluck-feast.  Keep the contribution ideas coming.  I'll bring enough chips, guac-fixins and salsa for all.   :smt001

You gonna start that food-thread, Matt?  Or should we just compile it here?

...and getting a firm head-count would be nice too.

Eric

W/regard to food.  I say let every one do what they want and we will feast.  Organization is over rated when it comes to food.

I just learned that I can't join you all at Shelter Cove.

I'm starting a new job to help pay my family home mortgage.

Someone has to do it, and I'm the only one.

My new boss understands all about kayaks and fishing, and is a good person.

I simply can't join you, despite all my previous enthusiasm on this thread.

So please visit me in Mendocino sometime.

I'm sorry, Eric/Abking.  I really wanted to at least say hello, but family and duty calls.  We have full grown bears here also BTW.

Sorry.  -Matt

It would be nice if we can catch some rockfish from the shore and bbq that over there over some foil, lemon and the works. I'm still figuring out however what to bring. I might make a dish two and bring it over along with water and utensils.

Abking Thats Just Salmon Fever! I start feeling it when I hear the word... Salmon! :smt044

-PK thanks for the reminder. I forgot about the Redtail's up north. Haven't caught one in a long time. Is there some nice sandy beaches there at the cove to grub some perch or do we have to do a little travling. It doesn't mater to me!  I would love to spend a little time to do some Redtail perching up there

Sorry to hear you can't make it, Matt.  We'll try to hook one for you...  but we'll eat it too!   :smt002  Next time, my man.

I'll bring diving/spearing gear, BG - we'll hope for some viz...

Early analysis of the available forecasts points to Friday morning as maybe the ocean window...  We'll have a much better idea of the forecast by this Sunday afternoon.

:smt006 I'm sorry I can't make it this time, everyone, but I'm doing a "sun dance" (so to speak) for good weather, FAC waters, and oodles of salmon, crab, abs, rockfish and maybe trout for Shelter Cove that weekend for everyone.
Oh, and catch a Humboldt Squid for me, while you're at it... :smt003  :smt002

If Friday turns out to be the window, I will head up on Thursday in order to get the best chance even if I have to drive alone.  Who else can be there early Friday or late Thurs?

You can see how close the campground is to the launch ramp in this shot: http://www.californiacoastline.org/cgi-bin/image.cgi?image=200502661&mode=sequential&flags=0&year=2005

Is there some nice sandy beaches there at the cove to grub some perch or do we have to do a little travling.
Very short walking distance to the launch+beach. Like a quarter mile. I've always wanted to perch this beach. Heard stories about big redtails along there. And it is a very long, sandy stretch of fishable water: http://www.californiacoastline.org/cgi-bin/image.cgi?image=200502664&mode=sequential&flags=0&year=2005

Still planning to drive up Thurs night. And fish Friday.
