Jaun-I'm definitely going to be on the SF Eel sometime early on Friday. I'm waiting on a shipment of Kayaks from Malibu that hopefully gets here tomorrow or early am on Friday. PM me with your plans and where you're camping we can hook up at the river.

Just saw this in an New York Times article entitled: "Collapse of Salmon Stocks Endangers Pacific Fishery"

"On Wednesday the council closed several minor short-term fishing seasons off California and Oregon in connection with the salmon shortfall."

Anyone know whether this effects the Shelter Cove area?

Doubt it, Doug.  I heard the rule is that they must give 10 days notice in any case...

So all the AOTY types better get their yaks up north where its still open and bag a king.  i imagine that any legal king would shoot the angler straight to the top of the leader board.

Called the RV park just to see what the weather was like.  Lady said it was overcast and I asked if the expected a rough weekend and she said she heard it might be, but that the forcast was for rain the weekend before and it was sunny.  But not sure if she's really that informative.  She did say they just closed the salmon season, and I told her I thought that started 4/1 and she said that was correct.  She had no reports of any salmon being caught recently.

Yeah, I spoke to Tammy this morning at Lost Coast Landing - the boat launch at Shelter Cove.  She didn't know of the 4/1 closure yet, and she's still closed due to lack of tractor drivers.  She's selling the business!  I asked how the weather is today and she looked out the window and said it's flat...   :smt010  Don't worry - it will be slammed by tomorrow and not better until Sunday evening into Monday.  She didn't know if anyone was fishing and said there were only a few fish caught last week to her knowledge.  She said that Cliff from Eureka called her last week saying the internet talk had fish being caught, but she didn't know of that being true or false.

If you really want to go then watch for my post next week - maybe we'll get opportunities over the next two weekends...

I guess "ideal" at this point would be if fish started being caught near the end of the month and we converged there for the final weekend and stayed until 4/1 for some ab diving and maybe spear a lingcod...  A guy's gotta dream!   :smt102

I can't make it to SC this coming weekend due to a business trip and Easter Sunday, however I am holding 3/26-3/30 open for a last shot at salmon.

Gah. I was only logging in to wish you guys good luck this weekend and I discover the weather has put a spanner in the works.

I was hoping to live vicariously through your Salmon adventures before the fishery is closed forever!

GSII - The event that didn't happen!

After getting together with 5 NCKA bros in March of 2007 (Sincoast/PK, sackyak/Etienne, Swellrider/Hawk, Sailfish/Sonny, and MBYakker/Chris) to troll for salmon together, the idea of "Gimme Shelter" was born.  I credit Pat with naming it.

For GSII this very thread got all heated up, and we were looking at having a few dozen people show up for a great F&C at the Cove.  Salmon season used to open the second Saturday in February down there ( :smt010), so chrome was our focus.  Rockfish and lingcod were open year round early in this century, so, yeah, times change.

The weather ended up bringing on a full cancellation of GSII, but the seed had been planted, and the vibe was alive!

I'll hunt down the GS3 thread for another GS Flashback later on.

If you're coming to this year's event, please get on it!  It's hard to plan when attendance is a mystery.   :smt001
