I fish the central valley and foothills all the time (like nearly every 3 days). One of my favorite spot is crawling with neck tattoos, scary dark skinned people etc.  Many of whom like to set up their picnic on the launch ramp.

My solution is to get out of my car, and politely ask the baddest looking guy if he can watch out for the kids playing on the ramp as I back my car to the water. Maybe I am just naive. I have rarely if ever felt threatened, nor have I ever wished I had my pistol on me.

Heck, I left my $300 paddle at the launch once. One of the aforementioned neck tattoos took my paddle, gave it to a park regular who then gave it to me the following day.

Haha. You made me think of my homies. I grew up with some straight thugs, but if we were chillin' at your local kayak spot anyone of us would be the first to offer to help you unload your yak from your roof.

That has been my experience with the guys at my launch ramp. I kinda feel bad for some of the boaters who get out of their trucks and immediately start barking at the launch ramp picnickers, as they miss out on some good food and funny conversations. Yeah, it's annoying when they set up on the ramp, but they are ultimately nice people just trying to enjoy the river. I can relate to that.

When I have to wear a pfd for work and carry, which is not often, but sometimes I get to kayak!!! I clip my holster onto the straps if the pfd where it is under your arm. Doesn't really interfere much. Try that.  :smt006

I like the produce thin plastic bags. You can handle and shoot without removing the bag if in a hurry. I carry a modest 9mm in the pocket of my pfd periodically. As with others, it isn't something I do all the time but, some areas I will...
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Big Jims guns are the only guns I worry about!
Poor fish.
Hahahahaha

I carried under my waders once, totally useless idea.... Not recommended.
Shoulder holster actually is my go to when I carry while kayaking, which isn't very often. Never in the salt, never along the American River, and actually never while fly fishing.
Always have my rape whistle ready to go tho... And I always have donuts to give to scary looking dudes to make friends before they decide to rob and murder me.... Lol

You guys are lucky to get CCW in your area. Marin does not issue them. Unless your Sean Penn and buy one.

But really... I can't imagine how stressful it must be to feel like you can't leave the house to go fishing without a gun strapped to your hip.

Because nothing ever happens on the way to go fishing, or in the parking lot, or on your way back.

When you leave home to go fishing, there must be some special protective cloud that surrounds you.  You must be special.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

Yes... I'm surrounded by a special protective cloud of LOGIC. It helps me get out of sticky situations with "unsavory" characters by using my voicebox.

This mysterious cloud of logic and communication has apparently been hovering around me ever since I was born 32 years ago, because I've NEVER found myself in a situation where either party felt the need to resort to violence. I have never thrown a punch, nor have I ever been punched.

When I think back on the countless sticky situations I've extricated myself from using only my voice, I can't think of a single one that wouldn't have gone south in on way or another if I had pulled a gun...

What a complete misuse of the term logic.  You have a particular life experience that you draw your own conclusion from.  Someone else might have a similar life experience and draw a completely different conclusion from.  Does that make them illogical?  Still others have different life experiences.  How about them, are they illogical?

I can't imagine how stressful it must be to feel it necessary to pull out the logic card in a more or less subjective argument.
