Update on RCG/Lings opening day??

and for those who don't know, Great Bass 2 or Etienne will launch into crap that many folks (myself included) would pass on. I always get a bit nervous when Scott puts a helmet on as a stow my hat

Whatever the date is, inevitably some kayak angler gets into trouble and has to be rescued on the RCG opener. Last year there were several. In 2010, a kayak angler lost his life. http://blog.sfgate.com/stew/2010/05/04/big-sur-coast-searched-for-missing-kayaker/ Etienne and I had driven down to sur that day the kayaker was lost and decided not to launch. We had a nice breakfast and drove home. I love the salt as much as anyone but the ocean is unforgiving. At the core of all of the unfortunate incidents is poor judgement and sometimes lack of skills/equipment. So before you launch your kayak into marginal WX and shark infested waters ask yourself whether that big ling cod or halibut is really worth your life.

Thats why we preach and emphasize on Safety First, Fisherman 2nd. Thanks Scott for the reminder. NOOBS DO NOT VENTURE ALONE.

man if the first weeks of April are anything like last year....there is not gonna be a many glassy days on the ocean ... bring your thinking cap for sure...and warm gear...

One step closer to being official...at least on the state side. The federal register was released late yesterday. The state just needs to conform the the the federal regs.

I just checked DFG site, nothing yet, bit I clicked a link and saved a bunch of money switching to Geico!

Season dates for recreational fishing for lingcod in the Mendocino, San Francisco, and Central Management Areas are modified by this rule. In the Mendocino Management Area, fishing for lingcod is open May 15-October 31. In the San Francisco Management Area, fishing for lingcod is open April 15-December 31. In the Central Management Area, fishing for lingcod is open April 1-December 31.

So... like... rockfish opens in SF area on APRIL 15.... NEXT MONTH!!!!!

Also:

When lingcod seasons are open the bag limit is increased to 3 fish per day. Hook limits for lingcod remain unchanged.
