Simpler. ..A cinder block, rope, float, and a hand grenade with the pin attached  to a loop.

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

Something along these lines on a loop underwater is a great idea. Its not going to hurt anyone so you're not in a liability situation there but is also highly visible as well. Not only would it be easy for us to see, but whoever detonated one on the water will make a spectacle of themselves for everyone on the beach to see as well. The only thing - would the ignition mechanism work underwater ? Many of them will work when ignited on land and then submerged, but is vice versa possible ?

For night ops ideas, I have these little disco lights from halloween that are motion sensor activated and flash a really bright disco/strobe light. Not sure if they're waterproof...if so, attach it to the trap...if not, attach it to the buoy. When someone brings your trap into their boat, it'd be bright as heck and easy to see. Or they'd immediately toss your trap back in the water.

Cinder blocks with rope to buoy, treble hooks every three feet. Put five or so out past all the traps so they get them first.

Put a glow stick in the traps. You can easily see that from a long distance if they pull it out of the water and into their boat at night.

Rig a dye pack into a dummy buoy that will detonate out the top when pulled. drop at high tide.

Prob is in the confrontation, in a kayak, they will just fire up the boat and boogie while we yell "you dirty rat!" I am all for setting traps for them. Too bad explosives are out of the question.....

A shark shield can give a pretty good jolt, but putting a $700 deterrent out there is out of the question…

is there a way to set a a capacitor charge that would release if not handled correctly?
