copy,  BTDT, and it's not fun, and I'm sure you did not hold on to it long,   :smt002  but I'm thinking something along these lines, and up the voltage with a capacitor array….   :smt088

probably liability with this if the poacher has a pace maker….    :clown:

OK this is strictly a Hollywood movie kind of fictional idea but......it would be cool to have a guy underwater with 7mil wetsuit & scuba come flying up when the crab burglar pulls a trap, grab the motherf***er by the hand & pull his ass under the water for a good long minute.  :smt006

IMO exposing them would be best revenge.  Take video at the ramp when they return, and make that shit go viral.

I never soak my gear overnight, so I've not had anything robbed from me (except when I loaned out equipment, and it was used overnight).  Basically if I go crabbing its usually a one day thing, and no real worries about losing any equipment, because I'm usually floating right next to it the whole time.

This would be pretty funny.

10 feet down from the surface ... a laminated card on the rope that says "Is this YOUR trap ?"

15 feet down from that ... another laminated card that says "Are you still SURE that this is YOUR trap ?"

Ziptied to a cinder block at the end of the rope ... a big laminate sign that says "SMILE ! You're being watched. Your boat ID and licensing plate number will be turned over to DFW with a video of your actions. The video will also be uploaded to YouTube under the title "Shamed Crab Thieves (or whatever". Have a wonderful day !"

I could only imagine the hilarious reactions that we could videotape. Im sure word would spread pretty fast.

Haven't read this whole thread but shame is the best.  Going to get a long range camera and start taking pics of thieves.  It happens everywhere and cutting zip ties is common.  Pieces of crap.

We were crabbing out of Ft Bragg the other day and another boat was following us.  I can only guess their pots were messed with.  We don't go more than a mile from traps so their are no issues. Never get more crabs for overnight soaks and sometimes they are harder to find if weather changes so stopped doing it.

Scuba and pull them in the water and cinder blocks with notes all great ideas though.

My idea is to get a small  GPS tracking  device and put it in  the largest crab you can catch  use monofilament on one of the crabs legs to hold it in trap. As soon as it is out of the trap in boat  you can see it moving on water  via gps tracking device -follow  to ramp arrest take boat truck  fishing poles ect. Now it shouldnt be that hard to do  and I know  they can also  video from over 1/4-1/2 mile away because an aquaintance of mine got ticketed for getting an ab for a newby diver who was in the water and  having problems getting an ab. They showed him video when they ticketed him.

some people are ridiculous... :smt011
Give a man a fish and he'll eat a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll sit on the water all day with a stick in his hand and no fish.

Y'all crack me up, but great ideas. film them and post on ou tube or have send the film to the local news stations. Now that could be a weekly segment!!! :smt003 Bunch of idiots!

Last time I was out at Doran a few years back with my daughter I had a dude drop hs string of traps with the same color bouys as mine. Now that was fun trying to findmy lone trap in his mess. Thak goodness for GPS. He camea running when he saw me picking mine up, but he saw my name on the bouy. We just chuckled.

And leaving this here might discourage them from stealing crab from pots?  And this is bad because…?
