He came dancing across the water
With his galleons and guns
Looking for the new world
In that palace in the sun.

On the shore lay Montezuma
With his coca leaves and pearls
In his halls he often wondered
With the secrets of the worlds.

We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.

I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.

Widespread panic does a great rendition of that song, no doubt cortez the killer was an illegal immigrant.

There are over 11 million illegal immigrants that live in this country. That's a huge number if you think about it. We could either ignore this fact or face it. Either way, the majority of these people are here to stay. If we want things to change, we've got to do something different - what ever that may be.

I came here legally so I don't know what it's like to be undocumented. My family emigrated to Guam from the Philippines. From Guam, I joined the USAF and that's how I ended up here in CA.

Thanks for your service brother!

No problem. Actually, I'm the grateful one for having had the opportunity to serve, as serving in the military opened so many doors for me!   :smt006

I dislike Neil Young. The problem with the reform we tried amnesty in the 80's. And it Worked so well, we became a magnet for many more. Hoping it will happen again. It doesn't matter what color, or what country you come from. Following a failed program with the same type of program, will give the same results. My question is why these other countries think we are so bad and racist. When their Immigration policy is much worse than ours. In many cases you can't immigrate there. Now that that was said, Lets look at the country where the majority come from Mexico. We can't work there long term even if we live there. Another thing many people do not realize. Many Mexican people do not want to be citizens. They want to be able to come here to work, and send money home. And go across the border freely, to visit their family and friends. All these people want, is to support their family. Just like we do. But the problem begins when they take the good paying jobs like construction from our own country men. Our youth unemployment has soared. While entry level positions are filled by people who have jumped the line to work here. .Now if mandatory prison for the person( not fines ), For company owner, and person whom hired Illegals with out a green card. Was enforced the problem would turn around. I think I said enough if we want these workers here, bring back the bracero program, this is the only cure.  I hope I was tactful. Min wage is going to be the real hot button. I went thru that and was working for min wage. In the end I went backwards. The raise didn't keep up with price increases.

Human beings should not have to live in fear or be at the mercy of trafficers. It's not the people, it's the process. I once heard a comedian (African-American) speak about stereotypes. Before squeezing in one about the size of his willy-wonka, he told this one. Five Mexicans driving down the road in a subcompact. Yeah, but they must be going to work. I respect hard work !  The fact we are beating around the kelp bed about is that 85% of "illegal" immigrants are Mexican. Like most of you reading this, the vast majority of ethnic Mexicans I know are good hard working people. deserving of respect. Illegal immigrants provide services we need, particularly in Ag. There should be a common sense worker Visa program where we can account for who is here and they can be held  accountable for their actions

On the flip side, saying that illegal immigration does no harm is  fiction.  Illegal immigrants partake in the same services that legal immigrants and citizens use. Whether it is the roads they drive on, the water they drink, or social and medical services, they have an impact.  There is a finite number of tax dollars. A fact that advocates want to ignore. Without compensation from the people that use these programs the tax dollars provided for services they impact have to be pulled from other services. This means that somewhere a child's music, sports or afterschool program is canceled. Somewhere a grandmothers senior support program is shuttered or an ER is closed.
People want to redefine the term illegal for their own benefit. If the IRS will throw me in jail for not paying my taxes, how is it suddenly fair that some can not pay taxes for decades and then be granted citizenship with all it's benefits, without any consequences ?
Want to be part of this great country, play by the same rules that all my poor white bread relatives and all my wife's relatives (WWII internees & unfortunate recipients of the Asian exclusion act) played by.

Anytime contractors hire illegal aliens, no matter what the heritage is, Is against the law. Plain and simple. They don't lower their hourly rate to give you a break either. These are the real criminals. They exploit cheap wages. They hurt the skilled laborer. Give the honest hard working law abiding people who want to make it in this country a chance. Jail the motherfuckers who reap vast profits from them while hurting the family who was born here.

Exactly!

There is too much blame put on the person who is fighting for better life and not enough put on those who exploit them. After all, i don't think immigrants are putting guns to company owners heads when asking for a job.

It's the company owners who drop the wages of those "great" paying jobs who are responsible here.

ever since mankind climbed out of the trees -we have been on the move....to look at any person who by sense of determination changes their location on the globe as not abiding by one law or another that was made by people who got there before them....is short sighted....people migrate... ...we all live here....think about it... saying things like...wasting resources...free ride type thinking...when there is ample money to build bombs and topple leaders and spy on ourselves...and buy hard on pills..is insane thinking and selfish....anyone on this forum not have enough to eat..or shelter...or food for tomorrow...
We dont own this land under our feet any more than we own the air or the breeze...and we have no right to tell any human where they can or can not go with their lives...think about it...brainwashed

In addition, the western lands in question, such as California, New Mexico and Utah, were already in American hands: they had been invaded and taken early in the war and there was a small but significant American armed force already in place there. Given that those territories were already lost, was it not better to at least gain some sort of financial reimbursement for them? Military reconquest was out of the question: Mexico had been unable to re-take Texas in ten years, and the Mexican Army was in tatters after the disastrous war. The Mexican diplomats probably got the best deal available under the circumstances.
We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.
