WS Tarpon 160 new model 2012.

A couple things I don't like about the yak are the rear carrying handle placement and the hatches. The rear handle is off to one side on the stern and that makes carrying the yak with a buddy to the launch a pain. It rolls over and requires an extra hand under the yak to stabilize. Not an issue on the 140.

The hatches are also real leaky. The hull is always wet and even minimal water over the bow results in lots of water in the hull. Lastly a transducer capable scupper would be real nice.

Absolutely +1 on the handle (exceptionally lame, hate it).   My front hatch leaks as well but it's only a minor annoyance.

I really wish my Wilderness T160 and T140 had inside rod storage.  I really love my Tarpons overall though.
Lovin' every minute of it!!!

In general and I think a lot of guys might agree,  less barges, more nimble off shore boats like the Adventure, 4.7, T160 etc.  You know the tippy fast ones that are ideal for our salty waters.

I do understand that the inland flat water, and protected coastal guys anglers like the barges for standing up and sight fishing etc.

Malibu Stealth 12

1  So wide I scrape my knuckles when I paddle.
2  Side hatches leak and yak fills with water.
3  Center "live well" hatch fills with water and is too close to the seat.  Hinge pin falls out.
4  Front hatch is huge and too close to front of yak.  Will take on water if opened in anything but relatively flat conditions.
5  Too heavy.

1  Can't attach a rudder.
2  Paint Job looks like a harbor seal.

I agree with everything you said about the Stealth.  + no rudder.  Not fast.

I really dislike the seat on my Adventure. I also wish they had some kinda seal around the mirage drive. Like the boot that goes over the gear selector in a manual transmission vehicle. More flat surface area for mounting stuff on every kayak would be great. I don't care how the top looks, just give me flat!

Jeff, the drives were recently upgraded with a front to back seal.

I like all of my kayaks and would buy them again.

Malibu 2XL a little wider than it needs to be kind of a slug paddling solo.
Trident 15 windcocks more than the prowler, sonar compartment is dumb
Adventure Island mirage drive should have stainless steel pedal shafts and idler pulley. Better quality rudder cables. A hull cutout for scupper sonar transducer.
Eddyline Carribean the front seat attachments break and should be metal not plastic. Recently it developed a leak near the rear scupper. Nick had a leak in the same area. Not sure if it is a design issue or maybe I put the straps on too tight. all that said, as close to perfection of the boats I have paddled and the best looking.

Santa Cruz Raptor,

I can only think of one thing.   I wish it were blazing fast like a Scupper Pro or T 160.      The center hatch was small before, but  there's a storage pod coming soon that allows everything you could think of to go inside.

Reading all these complaints has been very interesting.  Makes me really appreciate the  features of my Raptor.

It is also pretty clunky in the chop (at least from my experience).

edit: I have only paddled the SIK raptor.  The SOT may handle completely differently.

I've been very happy with my '09 Tarpon, although I do concur with some of the complaints already mentioned - namely the placement of the rear handle. The only other thing I would have added (that hasn't already been mentioned) would be 1/4-turn-fasteners for the built-in seat. There are scupper plugs under the seat that cannot be accessed without a philips driver and a bunch of time. In the surf, I plan to get wet and sometimes want that area to drain rather than collect. The hardware on the seat is a little sub-par in general - the leg lifter thingy on mine didn't last a Season.

I have a Jackson Kilroy and I really wish the dash could hold the large Plano box instead of the medium sized one. Other than that I'm happy with my yak and I really don't have any complaints

I think i found my solution to the rod holder problem!

I am pretty sure these Scotty gimbal mounts are too long for the flush-mounts on the Ultra. Like I mentioned above, maybe we can trim them to be shorter & fit the Ultra? Because it w/b the perfect solution.
