Karl, you can get a piece of foam pipe insulation for $1.00 at the hardware store & cut a couple pieces to shove in those side handle slots on snotty days. That completely eliminates the problem. jim

~2011 Revo...Transducer compatible scupper hole.  That's about it.  Seat seems fine for me even after 8-10 hours on the water.

Hi,

I'm consoder myself newby kayaker that choose buy used or deeply discounted kayaks instead of demo. Also, I'm on heavy side so kayak capacity is one of major factors for me:

1. OK Big Game - slow, rudder a must
2. Malibu XFactor - sits too high in water, so in windy conditions I had somedifficulties to paddle without deploying rudder. faster than OK BG, but no rod pod. Heavy.
3. Hobie Outback - loved it in clean water, price of the kayak is negative side (but the used one sells very good with very litle discount ). it would  be great if hobie add more small bungies like jacksons kayaks have for securing rods and other items. Also do  not like hidden cost (turbo fins and sailing rudder are great staff) Definetely will buy again when have more $$.
4. Big Tuna - price. hard to paddle alone in windy conditions. rudder system is weak, it had minor disfunction when I was in the water that prevent me to deploy rudder when I need it the most. Heavy.

WS Tarpon 160 new model 2012.

A couple things I don't like about the yak are the rear carrying handle placement and the hatches. The rear handle is off to one side on the stern and that makes carrying the yak with a buddy to the launch a pain. It rolls over and requires an extra hand under the yak to stabilize. Not an issue on the 140.

The hatches are also real leaky. The hull is always wet and even minimal water over the bow results in lots of water in the hull. Lastly a transducer capable scupper would be real nice.

2003-4ish era WS Tarpon 140

After many paddling and fishing miles I have to say that I have reduced my wish list down to one thing: a rod pod-type elongated hatch .

I had other issues with the boat that I have managed to overcome. I hated the perpendicular to the boat rear carry handle. Looked like a good way to get your wrist broken in a blown surf landing. I put a toggle handle on the rudder mount (since I don't use a rudder) and it has worked nicely.
I added a plano box for some secure storage, and it was a big improvement over my crate.
I used to pine for a through hull transducer mount, but I finally just used some duct-seal to stick my transducer inside the hull, and my FF works about as often as anyone's so I haven't been disappointed.
Lastly, I lost a hatch cover on the freeway, and after having had the front hatch blown in by a wave once as well, I added two cross straps with buckles and haven't had an issue since. Hull stays dry inside with no leaks.

my fish n  dive is a big ,slow they say, comfortable barge with no pains and no frills to distract me..big flat deck and bumper seat front to slide stuff forward and around on...roomy...stable...safe...it remains unchanged every year...that should say something...

the heel molds are a tad tight my right foot will begin to go to sleep if I get involved and forget to shift it...I just wish they made one a bit bigger in all directions..slower,fine,just a foot bigger all the way around...for me that would be an ocean  fishing ,diving kayak...

OK Big Game- Heavy and a slow paddle

OK Ultra 4.3- Original seat sucked, The two flush mounted rod holder  up front is useless IMO.

Couldnt agree more! I love my ultra other than that though!

The forward rod holder's on the Ultra is for rigging (tying rigs) and is very handy for that. The only problem I had was that the seating area and leg troughs were designed for a smaller angler than I. Oh, and the stock seat really sucks. The upgraded seat should come standard for that price :0(

Only gonna mention the 2 yaks I currently paddle. For the Revo, I hate the lack of deck space (mirage drive takes up a lot of room), the tankwell is too small & shallow, the twist & lock hatches suck, and it's difficult to paddle straight. And it doesn't handle trailing seas very well. It actually feels kinda tippy in some conditions.
For the Ultra, I hate that it's so heavy. And I wish the flush mounts on the side accepted the Scotty gimbal rod holders! It w/b perfect. Maybe I can trim the current gimbals and make my own.

Yup, that's the only gripe I have about my T13 was the side handles which Dustin had mentioned. No fun having your knuckles getting smashed loading and unloading each time. About the Revo, not enough deck space.
