Aaron, how about keeping NCKA together in the center with no spacing. The paddle and rod don't need to be shown all the way through. Maybe downsize the fish, upsize the state (with Norcal portion highlighted). Just my $.02. :)

Good effort so far ... I have my ultra critical eyes on, so don't take it personally.  Thanks.

Similar thoughts on NCKA staying together.

Also, the state in the middle is too "busy".  I wonder how it would look as an outline to the whole thing, with the coat of arms in the upper part of state, and NCKA filling the rest.

The paddle faces are too small.

And ... what is the top fish?

I took a few tries and with as many elements, it gets busy no matter where you put stuff.  One of the main issues is the state outline has a narrow vertical profile but has a large left to right run horizontally.  Given that, here are two attempts at the suggestions:

and

Don't worry about the cut off right border.  I am too lazy to re-export it and readjust, but can do so at any time.  I think I liked the state outline smaller and solid color to help provide a white canvas for the NCKA aka I like the state inside rather than an outline.

As for what the top fish, it is a ling with the same tribal twist as the salmon.

Thanks for the quick mockup.

Yeah, it get's busy.  Sin Coast's version of the state/logo was simpler.  And with an actual kayak in it, I somehow think more representative of kayak angling.

BTW, I'm not sure the state needs to be dimensionally accurate.  If it's stretched wide, it doesn't take away from the concept, does it?.  And you can always "fill" Nevada with NCKA vertically.

I sort of think of ling and salmon both as saltwater species.  Not sure that was the intention of having 2 fish.

I think the speargun also leads to it being too busy.  No disrespect meant to our spear fishing brethren.

I don't mean to dominate this discussion ... I'd like to hear other thoughts.

I like all the new ideas and appreciate the efforts, but I'm about to print about $4000 worth of the linghead on shirts and hoodies.  I am not one to sink resources into something I don't feel confident in.  The current logo graphic is outstanding - for shirts and hoodies anyway...  I'd like to see some new ideas printed up, and I'd be willing to get in on that, but let's integrate the new with the existing.  Thanks for the consideration, and please keep the new ideas coming.   :smt001

See, I was wondering about the bottom fish.  Almost looks whale-ish to me with the head.

And BTW, you've got mad skills Aaron.  I draw stick figures so I'm extremely jealous.

Thanks for the feedback guys.  I have a few ideas to make it less busy that I will try to carve out some time to do.  Some things I would like to do:

- Zero out the center entirely of paddle handles and pole.
- Distort the state outline to better "fill" the center and create a clean pallet for the NCKA.
- Modify the bottom salmon to be more identifiable.  The current fish is true to tribal references that I could find, but I agree it is strangely close to whale-like.  I do like the salmon / ling combo though but not sure if we want to change it.  I equate salmon to both salt and fresh as many of us chase seasonally as well as land locked like Berryessa.  I am game to change it to a bass if people would prefer a bass lower fish.  Changing it to a bass may take a bit more time though since I'll have to remock up an entirely new fish.
- One of the primary elements of the state outline is the Bay.  When that is covered, it makes the state an unrecognizable blob, so if I over accentuate it, that may fix some of the issues I am having.

I'll try to get some new mock ups posted later today / tonight.

It's not that I'm not a fan, or don't like the drawing....I just think the current logo is so incredibly badass that I can't imagine replacing it with a new one.

How about we contact Craig's guy who did Fishunter's decal and see if he can do other items for us at a reasonable price?

I would pay more for merch to have it with the logo we have now.

Just my 2 cents.

Sincerely,

Jim

Why not just keep the logo and do a slight simplification of the lingcod so it's simpler to reproduce (print/silkscreen, etc.)?

Unless we just want to go with Jim's #1 choice

I think the linghead is one of the coolest, baddest looking logos out there! My 2 cents.

I agree with the people that want to keep the current logo.

There are many kayak fishing clubs in the US but they don't have access to fish for lingcods like we do.
