Doesn't sound too promising.

I dunno.  It's hard to tell.  The wind limited their fishing spots and fishing time.

Exactly. The forecast called for better conditions on our second day. It didn't happen, so we were largely confined to the lee, where there's less structure. Regardless, yellowtail were present. A school swam right by Adi in mere feet of water, right up against the shore. The others were hooked in 50-60 feet.

Very few of this SoCal crew targeted the forkies. More often than not with NorCals aboard the Islander, your crew fishes up a YT bite. You'll have an opportunity; it's up to you to convert. Good luck.

I think Joe's asking about last wknd's 2.5 day trip.
I was thinking about bringing my dive gear on our June 7-10 trip. But you know what? I'm already bringing so much crap--and I don't want to make the crew's job any harder. So I am not planning to dive. And I'd suggest anybody who isn't semipro status to leave their dive gear at home too. Although, Joe will probably want somebody to dive with, so I'm not discouraging anybody...just keepin it real = this is probably not the best time & place to learn to dive.

There were 4 or 5 accomplished free divers. Whereas one shot a WSB in shallow the week prior, this crew said they didn't see or hear any. Doesn't mean they won't be home for your trip. Given the limited locations for our go, it shouldn't surprise that they mostly brought in sheepshead and calicos. I think a few passed up shots on other stuff. The lee isn't known for its halibut; that's a Pyramid deal.

I don't know PK.   I might not agree.  I am willing to bet the crew would appreciate a individual that was a pain as long as they upped the tip accordingly.  I do not think however that your fellow yakers would feel the same way when tripping over your excess gear or waiting for you to launch.

For me, going to try to keep it simple.

This last weekends trip was much better than the first trip.  The guys found some halibut and good calico fishing.

What I would bring:

Bass Rod 12-20lb
Bait rod(s) in the 25-30lb range

If you have it something for Surface Iron.

Tackle wise:  Torpedo Sinkers 2-4oz, Egg Sinkers 1/2-2oz, Swivels/Carolina Keepers.  sz 2, 1/0 and 2/0 livebait hooks.

Surface irons like a Tady 45/ Salas 7x.  Yoyo jigs in the 7xjr are my favorite.  Surface irons go blue/white, fried egg, mint, Mint/white.  YoYo you just need to have white on it.  Fried Egg, Blue/White, and Scared Squid are all favorites.

For Calicos anything works at SCI.  Weedless jigs, Surface irons, swimbaits, grubs, scampi's, slugs.

For the most part a lot of the fishing will be similar to what you guys do for WSB and all.  Halibu drifting a revers dropper loop or carolina rig with a small bait will be key.  WSB and YT trolling a live bait or dropper loop on deep structure (or a yoyo jig).

Not a bad idea to bring some frozen squid either!

I was assuming the Islander would have squid for us. They don't ?

Nope. Just live bait. Sardines, I believe.

I'm gonna try to jig up some PacMacs for the YTs, though.

Joe, when you blast a sheep just chill the filets for a bit and then chop him up sashimi style bro.  You won't be disappointed.

Gotta have Squid. Isn't a white iron with a bunch of whole squid pinned on a favorited way of catching WSB down south?
