I use crocs for catching bait like bonito for strip bait and casting/retrieving bait dines and macs for YT and WSB. It gives you more casting distance than flyline only and the extra flash can stimulate a bite. If the YT are in shallow, trolling live macs, surface iron, swimbaits and cast live bait become the weapons  of choice.

G-Whiz, can you get like 3 of those bulk boxes of squid for all of us?

-Allen

Not sure if I will have the time to pick it up in HMB; kinda busy taking care of personal issues....

If someone can make a trip to Pillar Point Harbor and go to the processors at the end of the dock, they sell them there...

Sorry Allen....

The lights at night can be exciting as it brings up the squid, then the flying fish give chase, and then the seals/sea lions come in and make the flying fish crazy.  Lots of fun when the squid are attracted.  Joe, I am ready to spear some fish.  The gun works real good on the moths in my yard.

Just FYI there are three awesome tackle shops right near the landing.
Charkbait is on right on midway just north of rosecrans dr. Not huge but they know there stuff and have good deals
Squidco, legendary tackle shop lots of good intel and stock for that last chance to scratch that did I bring enough tackle itch.
Anglers arsenal on rosecrans dr few blocks before the turn to the landing. My personal favorite tackle shop in SD. Lots of good stuff. Best selection of plastics and jig heads IMHO. A wall of nice jigs and usually a bucket or two of clearance jigs and baits of all sorts.
Last report I read said they were slaying the calico's so swim baits, MC Slugs, spoons, war heads that sort of thing.
Last note pick up a bottle of Umibutter. OEX should have it, read how to use it and have fun.

There was an explosion of fishing opportunities this week on the exotics. Yellowtail seemed to be all of a sudden everywhere. Catalina Island finally broke out with some of the best Yellowtail fishing in years, as counts per boat went as high as 51. Added to that excitement were a number of good counts on the White Seabass at the Island. The Options and Mardiosa six pack charter boats have caught steady limits of White Seabass to add to their Yellowtail counts this week. Continuing with the surprise this week were reports of Kelp Paddy Yellowtail both inshore and offshore, including US waters. Now that's not happened in May in I don't remember how long, if ever, south of the border yes, yet not north of the border this early?

In the game of biggest fish, if you can't enjoy routinely gettin' your ass handed to you, by great fishermen, then you don't belong in the NCKA.
