Yes I did and I'm glad Adam is still with us.  If the sea were my ranch I would cull some to lessen the liklihood of it happening again.

Anyway, I'm sure he shot whatever it was because he wanted the mount, or he wanted the hide....not to polish his ego.

Kind of the same thing, isn't it?

Great post.  It was sad to see the coyotes dead, but that just the rough way of the world.  One day, each of us will be culled... death is just part of the deal.  I suppose those coyotes would have not looked so handsome if they hadn't been chowing down on sheep for a good while.

About 6-years ago, I killed a pig.  It was a good, clean head shot, but it took him a couple minutes to die.  During that time, he screamed bloody murder and sounded just like a human being.  That was some freaky sounds that still give me the chills thinking about it.  That kinda dialed down my blood lust several notches.  Now, when I kill a fish, I say a quiet prayer of thanks.

That's pretty cool!  Might have to try it myself.

Nope. Not the same thing at all. I'd love a leopard mount in my house, and it has nothing to do with my ego. Anybody who really knows me knows that I'm one of the lucky people who could care less what others think. I'd want it full mounted so I could look at that magnificantly beautiful animal perched in my house whenever I wanted to. Again - just like in a museum. You see these wonderful animals and think - "How F***ing cool would it be to have that in my house?" At least that's how some of us think. I guess that's the same reason why I have four fishtanks in my house, too.

FWIW - I'd probably never shoot a leopard just because they're not the most plentiful animal, and I'm not too into the whole bait and wait type hunting for them. Also, I'd never shoot an animal that I didn't have the money to have it stuffed. I'd love a bear mount, but they're LOOT, so I will never shoot a bear. That's why I'm into the small predators. I'll bag a coyote, bobcat, fox, badger, etc. because those are typically $500 mounts.

How much were the ground squirrels ?? :smt003
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

Dustin, I love ya, man, but have to agree with Andrew.

Ego doesn't have anything to do with what others think, necessarily.

And ego is not a bad thing, necessarily, either.  I suspect it's what gives us our instinct for survival.

Do we post pictures of our catch here to boost our ego? Well, I know some do...but most of us do it because it's human nature to want to share things with others who enjoy the same things. If I post a picture of a nice fish I don't need all of the "Way to gos" and "Right ons", I'd be satisfied just knowing that somebody else appreciated that I shared a picture of a cool fish with them. Not ego related at all.

You got me on a roll here...lol.

So with that. I think I'll boost my ego a bit since we're kind of talking hunting.  :smt002  :smt003

Then that just means you missed the whole point of my thread above. Think Museum here. When I walk into bass pro and see all of those mounts I think wouldn't it be cool to have those in my house. I'm having a hard time understanding what that has to do with my ego.

Since I'm telling you it has nothing to do with ego (for me) and you're saying that it is, how about you explain your side a little better?

If I can ever get one with a pellet gun I'll let you know. Even the .17s don't leave much left for a mount. I think they're only like $80, though. I'm gonna need one or two for the scene I'm eventually going to make with my mounts. It's gonna be either a bobcat and a badger, or a bobcat and a coyote fighting for a ground squirrel or sage grouse.

The squirrel hunting CAN be traced back to ego, because I go with two super competitive guys who talk a lot of good natured shit. Hitting what's basically a moving water bottle at 200 yards with guns and ammo that are only rated to 150 is a definite ego boost. Not a whole lot of people can make those shots, especially in the short amount of time since I've been back into shooting.

Now THAT is ego.
