My wife just called and said they had the radio on at work and Barbara Simpson (ksfo) was talking about this incident.  I only caught the tail end of it but pretty amazing!    The legend grows!

Best advice from Sean Van Sommeran is to "group up" when we fish these waters,  "Sea Lions  do it all the time."

While the biggest  concentration of GWs in this area runs from October through March, this incident and the one with Dan in 2007  prove we need to be situationally aware at all times.  Other sightings and even attacks in the greater area have occered in Summer, including Capitola sightings last week, and an attack on a surfer in Marina in 2009, and a surfboard snapped last fall just North of Santa Cruz.

August - October are the peak shark attack months on the Pacific Coast. http://www.sharkresearchcommittee.com/statistics.htm

Here is some info on preventing a shark attack http://www.wikihow.com/Prevent-a-Shark-Attack

Here is some info on surviving a shark attack http://www.wikihow.com/Survive-a-Shark-Attack

Bottom line stay in a group and if attacked fight back.

Great info Scotty and Allen  however, no where in this information does it discuss the "The Pinky Insertion Method" ( Perfected and practiced by the Fishunter" ) that rivals the Tiger Claw or The Crane or The Iron Fist methods that we have come to know all to well from Bruce Lee movies. :smt004
I know Adam and know his humanity. He would only use this method, on any living creature, as a last resort.  :smt044
Adam, Sure am glad your okay especially for your family and we need you my friend. You always bring it and I for one am glad to have you as a friend.

Way to go Bro! So maybe yum yum yellow is better than bumblebee (tuna?). Crazy. Its all those released fish with loose lips.
Im taking some of this as a personal rule change...
1. No more solo.
2. Grouping together is a must, not elbo to elbo, but at least voice-close.
3. Got to get some more internal floatation.
4. Fish with Adam more.
5. Make out a will.

paint some more of those pics like you gave to Mooch,,,,the one with BIG Whitey sitting in wait!
~~I NEED ONE NOW!!!!!!!!!!

They followed me home on my bike yesterday and i gave them a crunch-by-munch reinactment. they didn't even play the audio!!  5 seconds of me on the ground?! NO MORE INTERVIEWS!!!

It will all be saved for scallen, PAL or SharkWeek.= so save that footage and make as much $$$$ off me as you posssibly can. I seek no outside attention, other than people in the know, or our/any kayak fishing community.
Chad!, You're gonna be a star kid!  :smt002

Chad on ABC at 11.........his next stop is the morning show in N.Y.

Adam,

Don't know you, I fish further south around Santa Barbara, Pismo Beach, and Morro Bay, but congratulations on the great story. Survived with only a scratch. I went out today, but have to admit I was thinking about your story, as we have had GWS around here this week. A few questions about the experience.

 - Were you hanging any fish over the side?
 - Had you put any blood in the water cleaning or gilling fish?
 - Were there any GWS sightings in your area recently?
 - Did you plan to hold on to the scuppers in advance or was that a spur of the moment thing?

You have a memory that very few people have without a lot of scars. Well done.

Adam. sooooooooooooooooooooooo glad you're OK brother!  Best wishes to you.

Reasons for more attacks/sightings in this area = very near a known hallout/pupping area for elephant seals and sea lions.  I doubt that these big sharks are going after rockfish blood.  This shark attacked a fifteen foot kayak.  These sharks also hunt in "the zone" where they can be as stealth as possible.  Adult elephant seals are bigger than our kayaks.

Be safe out there when fishing these spots near

DUDE ADAM YOU LOOK GREAT ON TV BRO

Yup! Even with beeps it would be great - maybe even better with beeps - kinda like a shark story interspersed with Morse code. Beep--b-b-beeeeep-beep Shark. Beep--b-b-beeeeep-beep Kayak.  Beep--b-b-beeeeep-beep pears.

 :smt006 You're a celebrity Adam.
