First of all - glad you made it back to terra firma in one piece.

Second, great recap of your event.  Truly surreal.

Wow!   What an amazing story!     You have good karma.    Sure glad it turned out OK.      Have to say, we have been pretty lucky.     Gets one thinking.

A couple of days later and I still can't believe it happened.

Mad props to Lost_Anchovie/Keith, who was alert enough spot it and let us know on the radio that a yakker was down.  That definitely allowed us to reach Adam sooner.

I was about 150 yards away I didn't know what to expect as I started to pedal towards him, but was relieved to get confirmation on the radio that Adam was unharmed physically.  But, he was adamant about getting his paddle back ASAP!  I handed him the paddle and he was so relieved to have another person by him... probably because of how the mirage drive looks like seal flippers and have been known to attract attention.    :smt044  :smt010 No worries, the man has been through alot.

As we gathered all of his floating items which included fruit, more fruit, smoothie and sandwich I thought to myself, "eff, this guy eats healthy when on the water".

I don't think there could have been a better ending to such a terrifying experience   Adam was surprisingly calm, yet focused throughout the whole ordeal and that's what allowed us to joke about it afterward since it ended well.  We formed a plastic armada and escorted the stud back to sand sweet sand.

Also, just a reminder about the importance of self rescue. Sometimes, every second counts!

Take your time but I can't wait to see you back on the water bro!  :smt006

Here's a similar video with the same amount of eff, eff and eff.

Best advice from Sean Van Sommeran is to "group up" when we fish these waters,  "Sea Lions  do it all the time."

While the biggest  concentration of GWs in this area runs from October through March, this incident and the one with Dan in 2007  prove we need to be situationally aware at all times.  Other sightings and even attacks in the greater area have occered in Summer, including Capitola sightings last week, and an attack on a surfer in Marina in 2009, and a surfboard snapped last fall just North of Santa Cruz.

August - October are the peak shark attack months on the Pacific Coast. http://www.sharkresearchcommittee.com/statistics.htm

Here is some info on preventing a shark attack http://www.wikihow.com/Prevent-a-Shark-Attack

Here is some info on surviving a shark attack http://www.wikihow.com/Survive-a-Shark-Attack

Bottom line stay in a group and if attacked fight back.
