Allen Bushnell has a very good above the fold page 1 article in the Santa Cruz Sentinel this morning.  The wife was not happy.

I had to tell her that Adam was a shark-week wanna-be kook from over-the-hill who decided to chum at the Bean :smt005.  "Rest assured sweetheart, this would never happen to a responsible kayak angler" :smt003.  I think she might have bought it.
I AM A COMPLETE KOOK

I saw the report and footage on the news last night. All I can say is WOW! But I'm heading out tomorrow. HMB. That shark will have to swim 17.5 miles to find me. Hope not!
Really happy for the victim. He was very lucky.

It crossed my mind to retire and make peace with the East Bay Parks with their endless money grabbing, kayak-inspecting ways...

But I think I will just stick within a group.  My feeling is it wasn't a coincidence that both kayakers were hit while alone...

PISCEAN was in a group, and one decided to pass.

How big was the group when PISCEAN was looked at by a white? More then 2 or 3?

It was just me, Aaron Hull, & bmb Ben. I was off to the side, but not too far away. I only got scoped though.

I was just watching Nudling's video and then I remembered the girl in the last video. She had a Hobie and her partner had a Torque. They wanted to launch and was upset they we had came in. It seemed despite a shark attack they still were determined to go, she definitely had some huevos.  She was discouraged from going but if they had to go out, to stay close to shore. I dont think anyone thought they would actually go, after all there is a guy on the beach with a tore up/leaking yak from a GWS attack.

An hour or so later were sitting on shore eating hot links (thanks again Chad!) watching them occasionally. They had their kayaks in the middle of the beach when we got in so I didn't notice when the Torque went down to the beach. We were kinda far from the shore but it appeared (we could only really see there heads now and again because of the beach) that her friend launched the Torque right in the middle with the motor in! She only had a canoe oar as well. She made it out OK and was puttering around in front for at least 30 mins before her partner decided to go.

When finally the one in Hobie decided to go it appeared she launched with the mirage drive down (when i saw her in the shore break she was already peddling).  She made it out OK and it looked like there was some kayak lovin' going on once she reached her partner. They were still out there when we left. Hope they were OK but I don't think common sense was their strong suit. There was also a high probability that some shots of liquid courage were involved...
