OK I had to do a rewrite today, but the story should be in the Sentinel tomorrow.  May also be published in San Mateo Times, SJ Mercury, and Contra Costa Times tomorrow.

I already talked to Adam of course, and sent him my relief, well wishes, and shared the astonishment with him by phone.

Best advice from Sean Van Sommeran is to "group up" when we fish these waters,  "Sea Lions  do it all the time."

While the biggest  concentration of GWs in this area runs from October through March, this incident and the one with Dan in 2007  prove we need to be situationally aware at all times.  Other sightings and even attacks in the greater area have occered in Summer, including Capitola sightings last week, and an attack on a surfer in Marina in 2009, and a surfboard snapped last fall just North of Santa Cruz.

Adam, I loved the video, and can't believe how composed you were just after the inciodent.....You are my hero, glad you're still around bro.

Allen

Ok the story is posted on the Sentinel Website now, and should be in the paper tomorrow morning.

Welcome to "the club" Adam!!!!!!
Adam and Dan now belong to the "I got beaned at the Bean" club.  It would make for a cool t-shirt, but it's club with very expensive membership dues. Please count me out.   :smt003

Glad your ok pretty scary story  FyI I talked to a friend CHP now was navy dive trainer shark specialist He said avoid black stripes , black and white patterns grays and browns . He said anything orca colored under 20 ft. sitting by its self is lunch Ie baby orca or false orca or seal . His choice of colors bright plain yellow, orange or green with yellow pasterns . Also he recommends carrying a bat and aim for tip of nose most sensitive area, gills or eyes in that order . punch kick nose he says they are not used to prey fighting back so if you have the opportunity start hitting kicking .All this of course if your not upside down in the water already , but the guy who got hit down south by the oil well had time to hit his shark. Good luck all be safe.

No. It's not NBC. Channel 4 parted ways with NBC over programming issues.

Damn Adam, glad you're alright. I would have been out there if not for work and would have without a doubt been in the thick of it to help you. You da man and you have a great many things and friends to be stoked about. I look forward to fishing with you again in the future, let me know if you are in need of specialized gear and I'll see what I can do.
