Didn't realize Dan da lurker is Dan 964. Small world especially at BH. Luckily DV is a GWS free zone so bring on the Hobies.

If anyone needs a kayak (Hojoman? compa?), just let me know, and I will bring my Cobra Marauder to use. My spare paddle is a crank shaft, though, and I don't have an extra PFD.

Let's see if I botch doing a seective quote...

Thanks for the offer, Janice. I haven't had much of a chance lately for any extracurricular activity. If I can make it, I will let you (and Mooch) know. I'd like to check out the Marauder one more time before I spring for my first yak (after paying my home and car insurance bills and before the property tax hammer (bill) arrives.

Hope you join in the festivities, Hojo. And, who knows, you might find a great deal on a used Marauder (before it's in Classifieds) that you can't refuse! :smt002 In any event, it's yours to use for the weekend--just let me know if you would like me to bring it along.

Compa - I'll bing the X-Factor for you to use - plenty stable and lots of storage and rod holders to boot.

Thanks for the offer. But I really am not sure about fishing out of a kayak since my methods are geared to the float tube. I would hate to leave the kayak in camp if it doesn't work out for me. I just wanted to try one (if one fees up) to get the feel of it but I don't want you to bring one especially for me.

I'll be bringing the X Factor and the Trident (and possibly a Prowler 15)...so it's there for anyone to use.

Compa.....it will be my main mission in life to get you into a kayak  :smt002

Hojo - you might want to try the X-Factor  :smt002

Hey compa,
If I go, I'll bring my float tube fins. That way, we can just trade boats if you want to try fishing from a kayak...and I'll jump in your tube. Maybe some of that big bass mojo will rub off on me!  :smt044
But, then again, you'll probably want to paddle one of Mooch's kayaks if they're available...because mine is kinda old and slow.  :smt012
Although ,the stability of my Drifter is well suited for lakes. I can even stand up and sight cast to fish.

Hoping I can make it up there for a day. Or maybe an overnighter. Just have to convince the wife+baby. Hmmmm.
Sounds like FUN! Thanks for putting this together Mooch.

No probem - hope you can make it.

I figured that this would be a great way to heal the wounds of the "Emergency Rock Fish Closure" especialy for many of our "North of Pigeon Point brothers and sisters"  :smt002

Compa, I used to float tube regularly until, while drifting down the Stanislaus River one day, I made the mistake of packing too much tackle into those tiny tube zipper pockets. A couple of hooks eventually penetrated the tube, followed by a slow but noticeable deflation of the tube. I got off the river just in time...there wasn't another exit point for several miles and my tube would not have lasted that long. The hooks are still embedded in the tube.

Anyway, that's the primary reason for my slow march into kayaking.

Howard, that is funny! And I have had a slow leak on my tube as well. And I had to keep inflating it as I kicked back to shore. But rule # 1 for me is no sharp objects near the blader. Fish included. All the hooks go into a container or containers. And rule #2 never forget rule #1.   :smt044

I also used to be an avid float tube angler until 2-3 years ago when I discovered kayak angling. Except for the cost, portability and storage issues, yaks are superior to float tubes and I actually gave all of my float tubes away this year. Here are my 10 reasons why yaks are superior to tubes...

1. Speed and range
2. Sea and river worthiness
3. A superior fishing platform - casting, landing, storage
4. Enjoyment - yaks are fun to paddle even if you don't catch fish
5. Sex appeal - yaks are sexy, but float tubes :smt005
6. Historical tradition - goes back to the Alaska Natives
7. Safety - less likely to be hit by a drunk driving a PB
8. Pimping potential - electronics (side scan sonar)  :smt003
9. A really cool group of people to hang out with (NCKA)
10. GWS attack survivability - in a float tube you are a one gulp dunkin doughnut to the landlord

See you out there. It's like I tell my kids about eating vegetables "try it, you'll like it".
