I just goggle earthed the campsite, looks like a boat in campsite? (mile in hike?) According to the lakes website, fishing permits are required to fish? (daily charge) What other things should we (them thats never been) know?  What, if any facilities are at the campsite?  Or is it shovel time?  Goggle earth shot may be old as it shows no buildings.
Sounds like a lot of fun.  I'll have to check with my new warden.  After having checked with her, will I start to accrue WAF points?  Or are they subtracted from a starting number?
Guess I should get a few dry bags now.

Being that the 15th will end the first schedule release of water from Del Valle I would suggest that if anyone wants to hit this lake they bring live minnows for stripers. They do survive quit well in a non airiated bucket for some time but airiated is best.
Was posting this when I read your get togeather for this weekend so I tossed my report :smt013. Another thing that I would suggest is the small rappala that was used last year which  kicked sidelingers ass (trout) or did I let the cat out of the bag Mooch :smt003. Will join in on the fun this weekend with hopefully my fam. of four (but that needs to be discussed with them) so at least one.
Looking forward to this. Frankfishing

Fishing permits are required - you can get 'em at the entrance

About the site:

There is:

- a bathroom (non-flushing)
- fresh running water
- a few picnic tables
- a fire ring
- a trash bin on site
- lot's of shade

The group camp site is less than a mile hike - easy and flat dirt road.
The trail head and the boat ramp is right next to each other.

There are flush toilets and a fish cleaning station before you hit the launch ramp.
There is also a small tackle / bait shop by the ramp - they sell ice, firewood, snacks and drinks.

For those of you who are bringing the family, I suggest you guys rent a motorized boat (per hour charge) and use it to haul all your stuff to the camp site - and do the same on the way back. Perhaps you can chip in with the others that might need the use of the boat as well.

Another plus about Hetch Hetchy campsite is the quality of fishing nearby.  The shallow bay next to the campsite (north) is excellent for LMB.  There are weeds, submerged Xmas trees, and a steep dropoff.  There is also a creek channel there.  I have been skunked in other parts of the lake, but almost never there.  Even if it is only one or two, I usually catch LMB and an occasional Smallmouth there.  Both my biggest LMB and SMB were caught @ Del Valle next to Hetch Hetchy.

I dont see any restrictions, rules on nite yakin...is it allowed?
It's off the water 1/2 hr before sunset.  :smt013. But that is the best campsite in the whole lake. And you can catch a mama from your tent. :smt007 :smt007 :smt007

Sign me up mooch. I don't think I would be able to fish properly off a kayak but I would try one if it gets freed up.

BTW, it will be big fish weekend. Those dates are perfect!   :smt007 :smt003

Compa - I'll bing the X-Factor for you to use - plenty stable and lots of storage and rod holders to boot.

If there are newbies interested in a trout clinic, I would be happy to give one.

Great! I'm always interested in learning something new!

Oooh, I love cats, Frank, especially the ones that are let out of bags. Uh, what did you say the name of that small Rapala, I mean cat, is?

I don't think I would be able to fish properly off a kayak but I would try one if it gets freed up.

If anyone needs a kayak (Hojoman? compa?), just let me know, and I will bring my Cobra Marauder to use. My spare paddle is a crank shaft, though, and I don't have an extra PFD.

I can make a day trip out of it for one of those days.

Whaddya mean, you're not camping??? Look forward to seeing you again--even for just a day!

BTW, Mooch, I called the camping reservation line to see whether I could get a discount as an EBRPD member or a senior discount as an old fart, but no go. Oh, well... And did you really mean that checkout is on Monday (in your original post)? Or Sunday? I'll stay as long as I can!

Can't wait for this event!

It will really depend on the final turn out. And so far, no one really wants to stay till Monday so I may just cancel that idea and just have the check out on Sunday 12PM.
