I was a float tuber as well  :smt006 (proud owner of the U-Boat) Converted to a kayak fisherman in a matter of seconds when I read an article about it  :smt002

One other advantage of a kayak over a float tube is that you can actually glide in a foot of water and still keep fishing  :smt002

Either way, fishing is fishing....and what ever platform you choose is all good  :smt045

Here are my 10 reasons why yaks are superior to tubes...

1. Speed and range
2. Sea and river worthiness
3. A superior fishing platform - casting, landing, storage
4. Enjoyment - yaks are fun to paddle even if you don't catch fish
5. Sex appeal - yaks are sexy, but float tubes :smt005
6. Historical tradition - goes back to the Alaska Natives
7. Safety - less likely to be hit by a drunk driving a PB
8. Pimping potential - electronics (side scan sonar)  :smt003
9. A really cool group of people to hang out with (NCKA)
10. GWS attack survivability - in a float tube you are a one gulp dunkin doughnut to the landlord

Scott

11. When being chased by a rattler you can just paddle away rather than using your fly rod to try and flip the rattler away.

I'll be bringing the X Factor and the Trident (and possibly a Prowler 15)...so it's there for anyone to use.

Hey Joel, can I try your Prowler 15?...I am in process to replaced my Malibu Pro2 Tandem, don't know yet what is gonna be my next kayak....

Thanks,

Kiel

Hope you join in the festivities, Hojo. And, who knows, you might find a great deal on a used Marauder (before it's in Classifieds) that you can't refuse! :smt002 In any event, it's yours to use for the weekend--just let me know if you would like me to bring it along.

Janice, I'm in. Bring your Marauder. I will pay the launch fees for the yak. However, I didn't know your trailer could haul more than one yak. I may even get to try Joel's X-Factor.

I'm willing to bring needed stuff to the site. The really BIG question is whether everyone wants me to bring FIREWOOD or BEER...could change the course of history with this decision. I'm car-camping this time; so the firewood is for you brave souls.

I'm also willing to bring my super-duper, lip-smacking, and usually very spicy ribs if anyone is bringing a grill.

Joel, if checkout time is 12 pm on Sunday, does that mean I have to
stay until Monday?

Howard

I am really looking forward to trying it out on a yak. I want to get the feel of the range it has as compared to the tube.

As an owner of both a kayak and a tube, I have to say float tubes are better suited for certain types of fishing. Especially when its windy!

It's yak or nothing for me. I will never go back. Bottom line is you catch more fish from a yak, IMO.

When it's windy? Not necessarily so. I float tubed the huge Indian Valley Reservoir one time, and the offshore wind came up in the afternoon. It took a long time for my group of five tubers to make it back to the launch point, possibly due to the non-aerodynamic shape of tubers. A kayaker would have made much better time.

float tube.....kayak...power boat....you can have all three but if you can't figure out where the fish are, you're not catching fish. It really all boils down to the fisherman who puts more time in the water than everyone else....regardless of what fishing platform is used  :smt002

But..... you'll never hear a hot super model say...."Hey....nice float tube you got there"   :smt007  :smt003

Negative.....since no one I know is staying till Monday, we will only have the site till Sunday = 12:00PM.

We also need to make sure the camp site is CLEAN before we leave or I wil loose my $250.00 deposit.
