I just saw this for the first time. My best wishes for you to get well and to be back out on the water soon.
I hope that they find that PB and make them responsible for what they did.

Dude, I am so sorry for your situation. I am taking your advice to heart. I have had 2 close calls that scared the shit out of me. I hope your recovery is not completely fucking horrible. Know that your NCKA brothers love you and are here to help. Just say the word.

Thank you all for your support.  I am doing somewhat better.  Everything is slow and painful, but onward and upward.  Unfortunately kayaking or fishing are not in the immediate future, making the season opener next year is kind of doubtful at the moment.  So yeah, slow and hoping to be steady.  Good news is I am walking now, but still cant beat grandpas or kids speed wise.  Goal is to have a joust match with a grandpa and come out a winner without falling  :smt044   Seriously though, thank you everybody for the well wishes.

I just saw this today and so glad you're making progress and wishing you a full recovery Victor. I also wanted to tell everybody to keep an eye out for PBs and do make an all out effort to get out of the way. It's a confrontation you can't win.

I was in north Humboldt Bay two years ago fishing the middle channel and I saw a PB heading up the middle of the channel right towards me. I started peddling my Outback towards the edge of the channel just to give him room. He turned towards me going full speed. The boat had a cabin on it and I couldn't see the operator. I decided to reel up and boogie out of the way. He kept turning into me until he ran right up on me before he shut down. Scared the hell out of me.

He steps out of the cabin and says "Fish&Wildlife, why are you running?" Why am I running? To get the hell out of the way. I thought you were trying to kill me, you dumb ass. He didn't believe me and he checked me out with a fine tooth comb. Opened up all my hatches looking for any thing he could find. He said I was free to go but not before I told him to have more respect and consideration for us kayakers.

So yes, you're right Victor. Protect yourself at all times because there are idiots all around us.

I had a similar experience about a month ago. It was a semi-foggy day in Santa Cruz, and I saw a boat coming out of the mists directly towards me at high speed. Even though I was on my full AI with sail unfurled, it was sure that the boater did not see me. Just as I was about to hit the panic button and pedal full-speed out of the way, I realized that it was the wardens. My adrenaline and heart rate were up as they pulled alongside--they probably thought I was nervous and trying to hide something. But, apparently, they had bigger fish to fry (so to speak), as they took off at high speed after simply verifying that I had a license.

I don't like stuff that sucks.
