Seeing as how you have 48 post, and I have no idea who you are, I'll just respond once to your comment.  I am not an ambassador of NCKA, nor do i choose to be. I have been along time member of this forum and i have contributed much more to this fishing community then i think you have. Yes, what a "local" think of me has no relevance to my life, but when they cross a line that puts my friends the kayak fishing community in danger, i have a problem with that.

Actually, he has more posts than you, Keith. He just keeps changing his username.  :smt006

This whole scenario sucks. Seems like an intersection of all of the recent madness and unrest. While I doubt those who grab most of our attention (like the fella in the boat) represent the majority of people, there does seem to be more and more of this kind of hostility.

I have never fished the area and thus have a limited view and a measured take on all of it.

I do know as an angler who has been very slowly building towards Salmon fishing in the ocean, I would probably think twice before selecting the area as a fishing location, no matter how hot the bite is.

Since many of us do this for recreation, solace, and relaxation, (yes also to feed an obsession/passion) I’m not sure worrying about a confrontation, the security of my vehicle, violating local taboo...makes it all worth while. Just my take, I know many would disagree. To each his own right?

On the other hand, it does not sit well that one individual or group feels some entitlement to a resource that should be public. Don’t we all have a right to these places and fish?!  I guess that’s par for the course lately, it feels harder and harder to navigate this maze and maintain a “harmless” course. The added necessity of attending to SIP/quarantine procedures only complicates this balance further.

It also seems inevitable as more and more “resources” become scarce, competition will certainly intensify. Perhaps I’ll regret steering clear and not “getting mine”, but I doubt it. This whole hobby should enrich my life, not detract from enjoying it.

Spiffy, I’ve also got a “new” account due to deleting more established ones. I first joined in 2010, but struggled with the eruption of ugliness on the forums this year. While many have tried to keep things positive and maintain a site/community that is dear to them, there is still a lot of bitterness that detracts from what this site was really built on.

That’s said, I never met Joel and have had limited interactions with many of the OG crowd.  For the true newbies, there are many members on here who are thoughtful, ethical, and really do believe in the benefits of community. Look for their posts, avoid feeding the flames of discontent.

My 2 cents fwiw

Damn son, you had to pop your head back up and contradict the bullshit you spewed in another thread.  Then when someone who calls you out on it, you bust out the number of post card?  Get the fuck outta here you fake ass bitch.  No one gives a shit about how many posts someone has, they all have to right to say something, especially if its calling you out on your bullshit.

Must I go into details of what a piece of trash you are so that all the newbies and people you burned bridges with can join in on this gang bang?  Just because other's don't post on your bullshit doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Spiffy did nothing wrong, he just pointed out the truth, but you hate that shit huh?  Keep posting your bs, we will call you on it and expose the true you.

This guy gets it! Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I’ll take you salmon fishing...if I ever get to fish again (between the SIP then remodeling our bathrooms, it’s been hard to find the time). Not bolinas though...down here in Monterey bay :-)

This particular boater in Bolinas was in the wrong and will be dealt with. Hopefully the penalty is enough deterence to make him stop. Unfortunately, it probably won’t change his mind...but if it changes his actions, then good.

Last note about this incident—the DFW has brand new camo Hobie Outbacks now. Wardens will be using them for enforcement. Maybe that needs to get out to the boating community. I imagine that will make most folks a little more cautious around kayaks (and possibly have the complete opposite effect for the folks who hate dfw).

In other news, how about a fishing report?  It was another amazing day on the water at Bolinas, albeit a bit slow.  I rolled into the parking lot at 5:30 and already a bunch of folks setting up!  Saw a fleet of kayakers on the water the likes of which I haven't seen since last season.  There was even a grand rainbow through the fog and a whale show.  You just can't ask for anything more beautiful.

Despite the number of fishermen on the water, finding the fish proved elusive!  There were 20+ kayakers on the water and I heard of one chrome.  For salmon, I assume the rest of us skunked - it would be great to read the 24 other skunk reports.  I'll go first - I threw the kitchen sink.  Trolled WMA no flasher, krippled chovy with flasher, mooched on top of good sonar signals with anchovies and later with herring for nada.  Explored the reef a bunch, went a bit north west of the reef/north of DR1 along the sandbar and saw no signs.  Covered about 14 miles.  Tried for halibut at the end of the day with the winds starting to blow...when things got interesting!

Eddie and I were next to each other when the unbelievable happened.  If you're on Coastside, you can read about it over there here:  https://forums.coastsidefishingclub.com/threads/first-salmon-off-the-janieb.71445/

Eddie was the hero here, and a true gentleman.  Hats off to you Eddie! Would love to read your perspective -
To get a gist, here's what I wrote:

I was one of the kayakers there to witness the whole thing. I want to provide some context.

There were a bunch of kayaks on the water yesterday, spread out all over the water. Our fleet launched early and searched from the reef to DR1 to more north and probably towards RP. These kayaks are pretty sophisticated fishing vessels, covering 10-15 miles, equipped with sonar, some with downriggers, and all the other bells and whistles. We threw it all out there-WMAs, bait, flashers, mooching. For NADA except one chrome. By 1pm, with the projected winds really starting to blow, most had headed in and there were just a handful of us close to shore trying for halibut before the weather forced us last desperate fishermen ashore.

Through this windy bounce balling battle comes this gentleman in a beautiful rowboat, heading out his back facing the sea. We chit chat for a bit and go our separate ways. A few minutes later is when he yelled over to us that he had a fish on and needed some help.

It was an awesome site to see and humbling in a way. All the miles, fancy equipment, thoughts around presentation and timing....and here’s a man in a rowboat with no fish finder, a broken rod, a missing net, and a mooched herring with a beautiful king on the line and better yet, in the boat.

A spectacular catch and one I won’t forget!

I'll add my report.  Pretty much the same story as Sakana's and we did spend part of the day trolling a few miles to the north.  Spent some time with the sabikis on the way out, a lot of scattered bait and a few whales.  I was with NolanDuke when we got harassed and we tried not to let that incident derail our focus on the salmon hunt.
Covered 15 miles total for a couple of lost baits, no credible salmon takedowns.  We did set up a drift on the way back in (in the face of what seemed like 20+ wind), and I got lucky to land a 30" halibut after a few minutes of drifting a frozen chove on a bounce ball rig.  Made the salmon skunk a bit less stenchy.

It was my first launch at Bolinas, and I enjoyed quite a few aspects of the day.  From  driving up the coast in the dark, the great crew of fellow kayakers, sporty landing, and sheer beauty/wildness of that place.  I do sincerely hope we can continue to respectfully enjoy this launch for years to come.
