No worries, my man!  :smt008

FWIW, I agree with most of what you are saying.

Eric,

I follow your conservation efforts and love what you're trying to for the future of our coastal biology. But this topic and poll hit me on a personal level.  How I read things were you had a great spearo outing, no issues, enjoying the weather and ocean like any other day, and no contact with others as per the SIP.  However, once you posted all about it on social media, that's when things changed.  I saw your Facebook post that day, and I saw the amount of comments.  Would it have been different if you didn't share your outing via social media?  Maybe its just habit because you always post your outings.  But would things have been different if you didn't share your outing and keep them personal.

I get your point.  Stay indoors, only travel when essential.  However, there are still exceptions for exercise, right?  Who are we to tell someone else what is essential and non-essential (within the guidelines of the SIP)?  If the SIP is absolute, then why even bother with 6-ft social distancing?  Have verified and tested delivery people do everything for us (or something to that effect).

I consider kayaking essential to my exercise and honestly, my mental being.  I love the activity and barely get out enough as is before all this happened.  Once a month, maybe once every other month?  I live vicariously through your posts, as well, as everyone else.  But when I do get out, whether alone or with one partner, is following the 6ft guideline, not stopping anywhere from home to launch, and staying local, still not enough for you?

If so, then as humans I think we're already losing the battle.  I think the majority of us here on NCKA will chose to stay indoors, or follow the strict guideline and be safe about spreading the germs.  But everyone else outside is doing whatever they choose.  Some following some form of the guidelines and others who still think its a hoax.  Regardless, I can't accept the extreme attitude from anyone telling other what to do.  I will respect your opinion but giving me (or others) crap when we are well within the guidelines bothers me.  I thought we were better than that.

The issue is that Eric did not Shelter in Place (unless he has ocean front property; which he might, then it would be ok).

A huge part of this problem is the mixed statements that were sent out by the counties. The first SIP order e-mails were encouraging people to keep going out and enjoying the parks and recreation.

I care a lot about this community - that's where my urgency comes from.

Thanks for prodding some of us along Eric and as Dustin mentioned DFW guidelines in the beginning. With following the current statistics and models being presented, right now is definitely not a good time for non essential activities. Hard pill to swallow at times but something i have been adhering to for weeks . Wishing i was fishing.

We received two alerts on our phones here the other day ( Monterey area )of even curbing our essential travel.

A great thing is i have been catching up on projects around the house. A garden and trees planted around the house that i have procrastinated since my purchasing of my home . ( 1999 )  :smt001  Reels re-lined and tackle chomping at the bit to be tried when the dust settle.

No, he didn't shelter in place.  Did he travel outside his local area, as well?  Maybe... maybe not.  While Shelter cove isn't mileage local to him, I'd consider him local there since he knows it like the back of his hand.

Curious what your interpretation of SIP and essential travel are under the State and County guidelines?

I know Capitola, Santa Cruz, Monterey and Tahoe all pretty darn well so should I travel there and go fishing?  Yes, it will take me over an hour to get to any of these places.

I am surprised at how selfish some people are here.  Don't be part of the problem.  The govt is trying not to come down hard on us.  Don't be the jerk saying "well, it's not against the law".  You know what the intent is.

From Ca.gov

As such, the public is reminded to adhere to the following guidance:

Stay home if you are sick.
Stay close to home when you get outdoors. This is not the time for a road trip to a destination park or beach.
Venture out only with people in your immediate household.
Walk around the neighborhood and enjoy neighborhood parks.
Always maintain a physical distance of 6 feet or more when recreating in the outdoors. If you cannot maintain physical distancing, leave the park.
Do not congregate in parks.

If you saw my FB post then you know I didn't travel outside my local area.

I already told my story - never left my immediate local area when I went diving on 3/20 and 3/21.  And I already said that going on that outing helped me to realize that others would want to do something similar and would travel through other communities to do it.  That's why I put up a poll to get others to look at how people traveling away from their own communities isn't a good idea in this SIP due to the crisis.  I've passed up any other opportunity and will continue to do so since my outing.  It's not about me.

There's great steelhead fishing on the Eel and Van Duzen right now - close to my house.  I can hit the mouth of the Eel quickly for perch, lamprey, crabbing.  I can get to Humboldt Bay quickly for a variety of fishing opportunities.  I've been home with my family the entire time other than shopping since that outing I posted that was 10 days ago, right after SIP started.

If you feel like I've come down hard on you then I apologize.  To say maybe I did and maybe I didn't go outside my local area isn't cool with me - I've been clear about what I'm talking about - repeating over and over on this thread that the question is about traveling outside your local area.  Now, as of yesterday, we have clarified SIP guidelines here - "Demanding cessation of all non-essential travel" - I've already been doing that 10 days, and I will keep trying to get the word out to others who don't know or don't care.

I appreciate it.  I am doing my best to not be a dick about how I feel.  I'm also sensitive as fuck and need to chill for a bit.  '

Let's just try to look toward the best outcome for everybody - Doctors Fauci and Burx were actually really great today.  We need clear messages of intent and encouragement like that, and people need to acknowledge how serious it is to be looking at, likely, at least 100,000 deaths from this.

I will now try to chill.  Thanks again to everybody for engaging and giving a shit.
