I'll be curious as to how firm commitments to stay at home are after another month or two passes. Rationalization will set in. Priorities will change ever so slightly. A fish pic will occasionally appear on these pages...then more. I admit that I'd be sorely tempted to make a 45 minute run up the coast to the Fort or Stillwater if the entrances to the coves were not all fenced or chained off.
Everything we do carries some degree of risk and we all have different philosophies to determine those degrees. For me, a solo fish trip is less risky than a trip to Safeway. I know. Safeway is essential. Fishing optional. But.... staying inside the house on short rations of the outdoors long term has a risk also, a slow physical degeneration as well as mental decline.

I see no problem with fishing as long as one follows the steps other have already mentioned.

The question is whether it's OK to travel outside of your local area for recreational fishing.  Or any recreation.

It's getting more serious by the day!  I post this "Extreme Alert" on another thread but this thread seems to be more appropriate.

From what I heard Gavin Newsome say today, this is not going to end any time soon and California is expecting a surge/spike in the coming weeks.

Trying to find loopholes or workarounds the existing SIP will do more harm then good.  It is not the one person that decides to travel for fishing, it is the thousands that are doing it.  Everyone of us wants to get back to or normal life, but now is the time that we do our part for the greater good and shelter in place.

Our parents/grandparents were asked to respond to a call to go to a world at war for 4 years.  We are being asked to sit on the couch.  I think we can handle it.

I need surf fishing pointers

I’ve caught stripers and salmon casting from the back of the surf but was on little trout rods which is all I have at the moment that might work

Would love to bring home a fresh striper right now

If they don’t arrest us first I’ll try casting past the break after we surf

State of Washington $500 fine 1st offense for not self quarantine.
And just to clarify for the haters I have not gone fishing or hunting or anything else except to and from work have also provided all of my employees with rubber gloves and spray bottles full of alcohol to sterilize their shoes and make sure that they stay sterile going in-and-out of their own homes and to and from work.

So just for clarity from the Sonoma site -- and many others -- outdoor recreation is clearly allowed with social distancing. I'm sure when they were crafting this they were not concerned with creating an all encompassing list of acceptable activities, just examples of the types of things that can be done while keeping distance from others.

My father's father died before I was born, but his brother, my great uncle taught me how to hunt and fish on his farm. I still have his old Winchester Model 21. Of course as I got older hunting and fishing seemed a lot less "cool" than other things that were going on. As he said in his Southern drawl, "seems like all young people want to do these days is play guitar, make love, and forget it all."

That's the problem with grandparents - for many people, they're gone before you're old enough to really appreciate them.

Not sure where i stand on this.  But one thing for certain is that we should encourage everyone to stay home for a week.  Because if people have a cavalier attitude, they will keep closing more beaches and waters.

Scenario: They close Sonoma beaches so everyone goes to ocean beach.  That means that they will have to close Ocean beach, then everyone says, lets go to Santa Cruz.  That means they will have to close Santa Cruz.  Then everyone says lets go to Moneterey, etc, etc.  It doesn't matter where you are Clearlake (closed), Eureka, or Crescent City they will find you.  Whether you agree with sheltering, lets all agree to cut back so not to force anyone to make a decision for us.

Offering opinions doesn't seem like a safe activity anymore.  So, I won't do that.

The web link for on this acceptable activities for Sonoma County indicates that "Go for a drive" is considered safe.
