On a lighter note, my neighbor’s version of working at home seems to be sitting in the backyard smoking hooch drinking cervezas and learning to play mariachi accordion

At least it’s not tuba

:smt005 sounds like you have an interesting neighbor.
My closest neighbor is just putting a new roof on his garage while listening to 80's classic rock.

I always hear the constant cliche "when this is all over", hate to say it, I really do not feel optimistic towards the future. I hope and pray that I'm wrong.

I dunno about that other stuff you said, but this part is definitely true. The lack of a clear endgame plan a full 2 months into SIP dampens my normal optimism considerably.
I could be wrong, but I think he saw a squirrel

Or you could address me directly.  Do you believe that anything that strays from the regurgitated narrative is to outlandish to even consider?

I believe in paragraphs.

I believe that if you want a conversation instead of a dismissive you should call people by their names and not by petty partisan hack labels.

I believe lots of other things but I’ll stop there for now.

That would make me nuts, 50s or 60s okay but nothing past that

Another note under corona virus impacts, there are definitely some positives

I already reported on this somewhere but last weekend we got caught in a big wild one and my nose caught direct impact from my big boat of a longboard, I came up spewing blood. Pretty funny seeing the reactions in the lineup The upside, it shifted my nose slightly left and opened things up nicely

Well, that's the way to put a positive twist on it, Paul!   :smt003

Placer county public health just had its variance request approved by the state. As of today restaurants can offer limited dine-in service.

Fingers crossed we don’t have a giant spike in cases. (We’re totally gonna have a spike in cases).

My son Zach was accepted at SF State in the Spring for Fall 20`semester , he received a email and other notice that all fall classes where applicable will be on line.

No dorms, housing etc...save some cash this year anyway

Can he go to JUCO instead and save even more money by delaying until fall 2021?  Or is he already transferring as a junior?

Numerous folks I know with kids graduating this year are either applying for a gap year or going to JUCO instead.  Can’t justify spending money on a 4 year college and not getting the entire experience.

I am reminded of the words of wisdom my father imparted many years ago.. “Son, don’t let your studies interfere with your college education.”

Hi thread!

Update for me:

I’ve been ridiculously busy with work. Specifically domestic violence cases. I haven’t been fishing all year except pokepoling once. I am experiencing domestic violence I’m my own extended family and am taking on refugees. Kids are all “distance learning” which is a euphemism for making shit up as we go and hope y’all are ok.

And now we head into winter.

How y’all doing?

Dang man sorry to hear about the busyness surrounding work and also about the personal life issues. Hope everything gets sorted. Seems like covid’s really taken a toll on everyone one way or another. Can only begin to imagine what it’s like for those struggling with other serious issues as well.

Don’t know how many other high schoolers there are on this forum, but from my perspective, being a high schooler during this is strange. Not being bunched up with hundreds of kids who’s faces you’d all recognize but only know half their name is somehow lonely at times. Of course you’ve got your main friends and family to turn to but looking back on how it used to be feels like so long ago.

I believe our county just went down a level in “Covid tiers” which means much higher chance of going back to school next semester with the appropriate precautions.

Hope everyone else is doing well!

My daughter is in 10th grade.  She seems to have adapted better than the younger kids, but it’s still hard.  You guys are missing out on so much that you will never get back.  I’m so sorry.

Thanks for sharing your prespective, GooseEgg!
I’m lucky enough to work from home...because my kids are in 4th & 8th grade and they need help staying on task. My son is old enough to figure it out, but it’s been difficult for my daughter to keep up with the curriculum, especially math. And the teacher only has so much time to help. So I spend a lot of time with her on the laptop...each day from 12-2pm helping her do homework but also now teaching her how to do math. She is also suffering from the lack of social interaction—more so than my son who’s content to play video games in his room all day.
I couldn’t imagine how hard it would be if I was in the office from 8am-6pm each day. My wife is out from 7:30-6 each day. I’d have to bring my 4th grader to work with me or something. But at the same time, I understand why we have to make these compromises if we want to reduce exposure to this virus. Our school district is planning to have a voluntary hybrid schedule in January...in class for 2-3 days per week. That’s the first step and we may have setbacks once it’s implemented, but this is how we move forward...”this is the way” haha (mandolorian joke). :-)
