I haven't hoarded anything since this all started an amazingly enough I've eaten every day and been able to wipe my ass with toilet paper everyday. Mind blowing; I know!
I've always thought it's better to be part of the solution rather than part of the problem.

The part of all this stages and reopening is that it just feels like our government treats us if we are toddlers and need constant hand holding and direction on what we can and can’t do. If they treat us as adults and respect our intelligence then this would be more acceptable. I get that at the onset and early stages of this shutting down was the right thing to do. We should not be at that same place now.

Because a LOT of adults behave like spoiled ROTTEN toddlers...

Just like at home and in grade school, those entrusted with our safety must govern to the least common denominator. Sure, your'e not an idiot but the guy that's taking selfies of himself in front of the police station showing off his piece and using #felonlifestylz might need more guidance than yourself (and theres no realistic way to vet the intelligence and responsibility of every citizen, *china is the exception).
If you think that mr #felonlifestylz is such a small fraction of the population he can be ignored.... well, rose glasses are so nice.

We are the country that brought the world the "Tide Pod Challenge", after all...

No rose glasses as I am reminded of this every time I shop at a Wal-Mart, or Target or Lowes or just about every grocery store these days.  Hard to put a percentage on it, but the lack of physical distancing, etc I would think would lead to the spread of the virus.

Exactly what anyone would think, especially since no one is explaining how a stay at home order works. keeping away from other people works not just in the store but in the reduced frequency of being away from home base. Since many people are staying home more often there is a simple reduction in transmission.

simple model time:
lets assume that three guys are concerned about running into each other (getting sick from one of them but they dont know who is the sick one)
when they see each other they are likley to catch what the other dude has (or doesnt)
their individual choice is to go to to crowded places every day, every other day, every third day, or every fourth day
all three guys will not be present at the same time in this model

this is only a model of three guys

as you can see, if one guy goes out every day and another goes out every other day, the chance of meeting on ANY GIVEN DAY is 0.5 (50%) someone is going to get sick quickly (within a few days)

if any two guys decide to go out every other day (they both decide this independently) the chance of meeting on any given day is only 0.25 (25%) the chances of getting sick are reduced by half!

if any two guys decide to go out every fourth day, the chances of meeting on any given day are only 0.06 (6%) statistics being what they are, but the chance on ANY GIVEN DAY of meeting and getting sick ate less than one in 10, pretty darn good chances really

so, given that everyone needs basic services, the best way to reduce infection without even using one tiny shred of distancing or PPE is to reduce the frequency in which people are interacting.

I am sad that I can not go to my fav restaurant, I'll be going right back as soon as I can... but I am keeping my distance when out and staying home so much. I used to be in a store for work and home at least 10 times a week (more probably, but I never kept track before) and I am now in a store 2 or 3 times a week. a reduction of at least 33% and maybe more if I'm honest. this is how I am slowing the rate of transmission of disease to me and my family.

One example of why the government has to treat the rest of us like toddlers:

Here’s another example of human awesomeness I just watched right outside my bedroom (or is it my home office?) window. A car pulled pulled up, and I watched the lady in the front seat get out of the car, open her rear passenger door, and rake a big pile of fast food trash onto the street.

I yelled at her out the window, and made it real clear that dumping trash in my neighborhood was not OK. She yelled back, said I was full of shit, (and a few other things I’ll leave out) and that the trash was there when she pulled up.

So ya... I guess we’re not supposed to believe what we see with our own eyes anymore.

Let’s just say my faith that humans at large will voluntarily do the right thing is very low right now...

Nor should you.  And nor should Alex...

As our government attempts to appeal to the lowest common denominator, someone needs to remind them "you can't fix stupid".

if you cant fix stupid (true) how do you keep the stupid from doing to much harm?

looks like we are slowly opening back up (Level 2) it will be good to see how things get to a new normal

A few weeks ago it became apparent to me that we are individually on our own, I set an acceptable (to me) risk level for myself somewhere between "the rules" and my desires. I do what I can within that to protect myself, my loved ones and that in turn does protects society as a whole to some extent.

Yesterday I went to a farm stand that I've been to 4 times since this all started, I've seen up to about 80% masked patrons, yesterday I'd say it was less than 50%.

On Wednseday I was visiting my grandkids and (mistakenly) showed my 3yr old granddaughter the mask I had in my shirt pocket, she wanted to wear it, I said no cause it was mine but let's see if we can find one for you.  We found a strawberry patterned pajama top, which we pulled down over her head to just below her eyes and loosely tied the sleeves on top her head, she thought it was pretty cool and had no problem running around with it for 10 minutes or so. She's also the same kid that demonstrated proper hand washing to me on my first visit after SIP was instituted.

So just in case you missed it Yes I'm comparing a 3yr olds ability to do some level of infection control to the lack there of that I saw at the farm stand.

There has been coverage about this virus since December  maybe even earlier. Why wasn't there any precautions taken back then? China being a globalist country means it was a matter of when not if, it would land here. Why not preemptively put measures in place to prevent the restricted way of life we have now. People are so quick to deny  themselves the ability to think critically for their own well being. Rather to trust politicians and media who have flipflopped and shown incompetency at all levels. I think gov gruesome declared nothing will ever fully open unless there is a vaccine. So mandatory mass vaccinations? I believe they're is no effective vaccine against a coronavirus, is that true? And some new vaccine magically will? I'm not anti vax by any means, but I'm  not down to let someone shoot me up with just anything that isn't vetted. Is that so radical? And we're all supposed to blindly trust the powers that be, who are DIRECTLY responsible for the shit show we are in now. Or else we are deemed extremists or selfish. Petaluma PD just purchased 54 new sig rifles with all this going on...and they say shootings from years ago prompted the recent purchase. Now with talks of utilizing "contact tracing", please tell me how that isn't insane overreach. Its almost certain this economic tragedy will wipe out what little of the middle class is left in America, while defining us citizens as either "essential or non-essential ". I always hear the constant cliche "when this is all over", hate to say it, I really do not feel optimistic towards the future. I hope and pray that I'm wrong.

I dunno about that other stuff you said, but this part is definitely true. The lack of a clear endgame plan a full 2 months into SIP dampens my normal optimism considerably.

Darwin usually eliminates the truly stupid. (Yet I am still here)😃

As far as when this all end is still a SWAG even for the scientists which is unsettling for me.  If this virus is like the flu then I see it becoming an annual flu shot.  Currently the majority of what science is reporting is this is a moving target so a one time vaccination is not going to be the answer.

What did I mention that made you skeptical? In Sonoma county, once we have met a requirement towards next reopening stage, they create new ones that are completely arbitrary and unrealistic. It's heart breaking to see so many local businesses shut down, that could easily meet saftey requirements. This shutdown has done much more damage than the virus itself.
