whose IDEA was it to go to Linda Mar this morning!! first time there and holly crap...the condition this morning was CRAZY!! I had my doubt when I saw the waves and wind as I'm approaching the site. With Tsuri and Keith assuring that its doable...I unloaded and geared up.

PS. make sure you are fully dressed ie wetsuit or drysuit or wetsuit (farmer john) plus dry pants and top (that was what I was wearing).

Both made it out fine. I was running late so I was the last one to launch. Watch the sets a few minutes. Ummm yeah its very terror-stricking horror of a scene!! lol its shit in your pants type of waves after waves!! unrentless!! I was about to radio them and say screw this crap...no salmon is worth it lol however the thought of chrome overtook me and clouded my judgement...DAMN IT LOST ANCHOVY!! I stood there and overcome the fear and just remember what I learn from last year!!

After a huge set went through, I slowly walk out and quickly got on when it was on a null. Then started paddle like a hell!! non-stop paddling. Waves after waves were forming and I was getting air each time I went through. You have to remember...KEEP PADDLING...GOTTA KEEP PADDLING...you don't want to stop paddling and watch the Godzilla of a wave start forming and crashing upon you. If you do then its GAME OVER!! Build momentum and you will go through or up over the wave. Just don't panic!! Anyways each wave was increasing getting bigger and bigger...and I just paddle and paddle as hard as I can. After like a lifetime, I made it out but kept paddling just in case I was still in the danger zone!!

Once out, I had to recover my energy!! me = out of shape lol We started trolling and with the current and high wind made it very sketchy!! Even if you were to get a salmon, it would be a challenge to land it. We kept going round round and round. Saw a lot of suspect mark!! I had a bite...something took a chunk out of the middle of my anchovy!! not sure how it missed both hooks :( not sure what it was. By the way, remember dressed for the occassion. If I didn't wear a dry top, I would be miserable since the wind made it really chilly!! It would not be fun out there trolling while freezing your ass off lol unless you get a salmon that is lol

With the wind and current, we could have made it to the fishing ground in a hurry but opt to stay close since it would be hours and hours to paddle against the wind and current to get back!! After 3.5 hrs of work, we called it!!

Now the 2nd part of hell. Landing. By this time the wave seem to be bigger than when we went out. Also a lot of surfer to watch out for!! I timed the set and was going in smooth however it quickly changed in an instant!! A mother of all wave started to form and before you know it it was on top of me and started to crash down. I tried to point it straight but no dice so I remember to broach!! Leaning into the wave as hard as I can. It was miracle that somehow I did it right and I rode it in. ALL CAUGHT ON MY GOPRO!! Its a sick video! I landed without incident. I'll post the video after I get some rest!! I'm tired...drove over 800 miles in the last 3 days :(

Bust out the drone as well so I'll post both later lol. Just a little advise on landing...STOW everything and tied down everything!!! Also bring as little stuff as possible!! lol

to recap:

crazy launch, crazy landing, no salmon love...gain a lot of experience lol

CRAZY OUT!!

You wanna roll with me you gotta put on your big boy pants. But crazy has gone a long way. A little fear is good. It keeps the blood pumping.

Its been a long time since I've taken a swim and today the fish gods called my number. Never in real danger but holy Hanukkah the sneaker wave caught me.  :smt044

No yard sell cause everything was stored away, but manage to lose a few items regardless.?? Don't know how that happened. Shty conditions but we all made the right call and had a good time with good company.

Payed my dues to the gods. The landlord is not the only one that takes rent folks. Lol.

nice story fellas.  paddle until you are not scared anymore, that's my motto.  No time for fear, gotta be 100% gusto once you decide to go.  My turn soon .... lol ...

'looking forward for that lean video, but nobody blamed you if you slept for two days!

Thank you much for the scout, hopefully condition is better soon, both waves and fish!  'looks like they've moved toward the coast side from Monterey to Marin.

ps: Never understood those half miss with two hooks.  A deck hand told me to keep the 2nd hook loose instead of through the bait, but I tried that, still no dice.

Lie! You were the few that went out of the anchor bay tourney in 10ft shore breaks. Those make these look like the kiddie pool. Let's be a little honest here Tim. Lol.

You are welcome to come along, but just be aware that this will be a surf launch & landing.  You need to be comfortable with that.  Also, I have a pedal kayak, so I'll be all over the place, likely at a faster speed than your paddle kayak.  I would recommend that your next outing to be from HMB instead of from a surf (I have a surf champ kayak, Santa Cruz Raptor G2, though the Kraken is very very good as well).

Here is some launch & landing vid courtesy of KPD and B0B

Thanks for your input. I think I will pass on this until I take my class.
Thanks for the vids!

Ya, no worry.  Eventually you'll get there, you may have to go through some surf to access some of the best fishing spots.

Cuz nothing like the feel of fresh water and a challenge!  However, I can't imagine trying to right an AI during a series of swell.  Do you just punch through the wave with the motor?
