Home Defense - what do you use?

My pups always on guard, not to mention the 12ft Burmese python as a backup.

Live in good neighborhood and don't spend my life worried.

 

With land in a rural setting - two big dogs and a rifle. Mini 14 is a good choice. Personally I'm not a gun guy. Inside my house I want something with precise control and stopping power.

Haha thanks fellas for the feedback, my father just bought a mini-14. Im leaning on the shotgun. The reason for the lights is my property is pretty dark. It's almost intimidating to drive in.

So you move out onto acreage and light it up like it's a downtown city block. Or a prison yard. Makes no sense to me. I've seen it before. City folk move to the country and light it up like prison a prison yard. Pisses off the neighbors too.

I should be more specific, the lights I'm referring to are motion activated not permanent lights on. More of an indication VS lighting up the land. Personally I'd have it pitch black but I have to negotiate with the boss. She's already bugging for concrete. In addition we are not out in the country the land we have is actually in the city and we are backed up next to newer developed homes.

Ah gotcha. Not what I had pictured from your description. I imagined the neighbors kids coming over with slingshots to take out the lights lol

The pistol  in the night stand is to have something in hand while I fetch the 12 guage. The Chihuahua is the alarm. I live in a great neighborhood, but that doesn't mean the bad stuff won't spill over. I'm not paranoid, I have been shot, I still have the 40 caliber round in me. I just want to be sure that I am not a victim next time. Better an active participant in a gun fight than a victim of a shooting..... in my humble opinion.
Mini 14 is great. I like it over OO buck. At least you have accountability for all your projectiles. There is always a wayward ball bearing with heavy buckshot.
However you decide to arm yourself, make sure you are skilled, competent and have ready access while providing for security of your weapon.

I have the ultimate weapon. Guaranteed to not piss off the ladies, and cheap enough ammo that I can shoot you as many times as I want.

Two big chocolate labs with a bark so mean it will make you piss yourself !!! Then one screams like you put a shock collar on his nuts !!!! if you get by that, a tactical shotgun with .40 cal for back up. AR-15 if we are upstairs.

I have an elaborate system of Home Alone inspired traps. You know...bowling ball on a rope, marbles on the floor, slippery stairs, and the classic Scarface scene on max volume. So far, it works.
