Stormsurf 180hrs Wind forecast
http://www.stormsurfing.com/stormuser2/images/grib/mendo_wind_61.png

That's a pretty deceptive wind forecast.  Notice the split in the wind at the cape and the difference between wind speed and direction offshore and nearshore.  That's a recipe for some wind eddies and those can blow you straight off the water.

I've got my eye on these forecasts too and its still a week out, but conditions are shaping up to be less than ideal but far from terrible.  Saturday looks a lot better than the 3 days before it.  We shall see.

Magicseaweed forecasting high winds wed/thur, dropping on Fri/Sat. Current swell forecast for Sat is 6-7ft at 10 sec out of NW over a 2ft out of the south at 15 sec. We'll see how that changes over the next few days.

On those slides,...

I was very concerned when I saw the news reports of "four different slides" at Shelter Cove.  They showed pictures of caution tape at the ramp, but there were no pics of the actual slides.  They also talked of people rescued by all terrain vehicle, but I didn't see pics or video of that either.  That's all fine, but when we were at the Cove in the following days we couldn't see any evidence of a significant change from what is already the case - constantly eroding hillsides all the way from the launch to Deadman's...

For what it's worth, I think a mountain was made of a mole hill, but I do acknowledge that there is risk to be taken along that bluff.

Yeah, I couldn't even tell .where one was, let alone four.  There was a really nice truck abandoned to the surf though out toward deadmans.

My friend in Whitethorne told me that they sensationalize the story cause the ocean washed the slides away like it typically does.  Apparantly there is a Red Ford Raptor truck that got stuck just past Deadmans creek that is a complete loss.

After battling one nasty sick attack that gave me a fever as high as 102.9F for several days with next to no apetite, no sleep, cold sweats that had me changing my sheets twice a day and a soar throat plus throbbing head kept me in bed pretty much all week.  I havnt been sick in several years, but that was the sickest I have ever been since living here almost 17 years.  I'M BACK IN THE SADDLE!!.  Its time for some real halibut and salmon porn.  Like this

Great question, Chris.  Great answers and info so far.

The launch has been great lately - today it was easy peasy... - but it's definitely sanded in.  You can almost drive to the end of the breakwater at any average low tide...   If there's no south or west in the forecast it's pretty much like normal.  The hazards come when you're coming in and don't expect a little breaker under you in shallow water - shouldn't be a problem.  If there's a significant south or west swell we will need to watch out.

Great info, thanks Eric!

No!  I only have orange ones around because the tackle shop was out of plain lead ones...  I like the plain lead ones, but I've caught plenty of fish using the orange ones too.

While this week upcoming looks pretty windy for a few days, it appears that Friday, Saturday (Game Day) and Sunday should be pretty nice at the Cove.  The wind preceding the event should help to cool the water too.

I'm encouraged by the forecast, and we'll see how it evolves.

Soon now.  Soon.  :smt001

I had been planning to come early and fish several days this week. Looking at the 10 day forecast I worked all day today and will tomorrow to move my schedule around so I can get my work done this week and stay well into next week, which is looking much better than this week. Going to try to stay until Wednesday. I can barely stand the anticipation of a long cove trip after a long winter when everything here has been closed for so long. I'm so close to leaving, yet it seems so far away.

It feels like the days leading up to Christmas as a six year old. See you all in a few days!
