THIS JUST IN!!!

Our very own DOTY 3rd place winner LiveAlohaKris aka Kris Cortez has donated a free FII Level 1 Freediving class to the DOTY prize table!!

 :smt007 :smt007

http://www.freedivinginstructors.com/kris.cortez

Besides being a super cool guy, a Marine, an EMT and an excellent spearo, Kris is a GREAT instructor and I really enjoyed learning from him in the class that I took with him and Matt Lopez last year.

The class is AWESOME, not just for diving deeper and longer, but also for learning how to dive safer and how to help your buddy if they get in trouble.

I have no doubt that whoever gets this prize will LOVE the class!

THANK YOU Kris!!

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

Awesome donation Kris.  3rd place is amazing but you could have made it to number 1 if you weren't having so much fun in Hawaii.

More prizes for the DOTY table!!

 :smt007

This pile of goodies is courtesy of Austin's Diving Center in Miami.

Austin's has been a DOTY sponsor since 2012 and have always gone out of their way to give us some killer prizes.  :smt008

The UK dive light is a workhorse and a NorCal favorite, the knife is solid, the shirts are sweet, the booties look great, and everybody likes gift certs and beer coozies!!

Thanks again to Doug Austin and Austin's Diving Center!

Jim

Some buddies and I were talking about if it was possible to spear any fish at the Awards...

We were thinking you could shoot carp but not stripers...

From what I can determine the answer is that all spearing is closed in the Valley Distict (which includes Merced County where the SLR is) until May 1st...

Quote
2.30. SPEARFISHING.
Spearfishing is permitted only in:
(a) The Colorado River District for carp, tilapia,
goldfish and mullet, all year.
(b) The Valley District and Black Butte Lake (Tehama County) for carp, tilapia, goldfish, striped bass, western sucker, Sacramento blackfish, hardhead, Sacramento pikeminnow and lamprey, from May 1 through September 15, except that no spearfishing is permitted in:
(1) Shasta County (see Section 2.12).
(2) Tehama County except Black Butte Lake.
(3) Butte Creek (Butte Co.).
(4) Feather River below Oroville Dam (Butte Co.).
(5) Designated salmon spawning areas (See Fish
and Game Code Section 1505).
(c) The Kern River from the Kern-Tulare county
line upstream to the Johnsondale Bridge for carp,
goldfish, western sucker, hardhead and Sacramento
pikeminnow, from May 1 through September 15.
(d) See bullfrogs (Section 5.05).

If anyone else has a different interpretation please let me know, and if you see any divers suiting up to go blast some fishies please let them know...would hate to see anyone get a ticket!!

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

In case you haven't been to the group campsite before, the location of Group Campsite A is at the San Luis Creek Campground area. I imagine we'll try and take over the gazebo.  It is not at the main boat launch ramp, which is a whole different road altogether.  Its a couple miles in from the main entrance.

Also, don't forget they have boat inspections, so try to keep your kayak at least somewhat clean if you can.  I'll have my SP10 if anyone wants to borrow it, and can bring my SP13 if someone wants to borrow that as well, just let me know.
