My .02

NCKA

One thing that separates our club from any other club is the friendship and camaraderie between us all.
Show me one other club that has the same mojo as we do.
The one thing we all have in common is we share a passion for fishing from our kayaks.
Many of us also have boats and float tubes and yes, even air mattresses. Those things are not what brought us together. The kayak did.
Anyone who fishes shares the same passion as we do for the sport; but that doesn't mean they share the same experiences, unless they do it from a kayak.
That's what gives us our mojo, passion for the sport and common experiences.
Sitting on a kayak at water level, feet hanging over the side in the water and sliding that big ling onto your lap while 1/2 of it is still in the water is WAY different than someone rowing a Valco out and catching the same ling. If it were the same then we'd all have Valcos because they were on the production market first. Why isn't there an NCVA??
I think by allowing crafts other than kayak takes away from who we are.
There are plenty of fishing tournaments which allow any type of watercraft to enter. So be it.
I prefer a kayak fishing tournament, kayak being the key word.
If anyone challenges what is the definition of a kayak, do a Google image search on the word kayak. Scroll to the end. If that doesn't answer your question then I have definite safety concerns about you being on the water. There's a lot of common sense involved. If you cannot determine what a kayak is from those pics then there's definitely a shortage of grain in the silo.

As long as he is dressed for immersion - wetsuit/ drysuit & life jacket like the rest of us then let him come
Winner, 2012 Fisherman's Warehouse, Tiki Lagoon - Stripers.

In the game of biggest fish, if you can't enjoy routinely gettin' your ass handed to you, by great fishermen, then you don't belong in the NCKA.

We are Nor Cal KAYAK.  If it is not a kayak then is should not be allowed.

Seems pretty easy to understand.

Human powered or not should not matter.  If it ain't a kayak, it should not be allowed.  That is why I NEVER asked if my fish caught in my float tube could count towards FAOTY or even AOTY.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

NCKA does indeed mean kayak fishing. Albion is run by me not NCKA. If I chose to allow a dory then that's my choice. if you don't like it don't come to the event. I seriously doubt that hordes of dory men are going to show up for the event. So if you have a bitch about kayaks go straight to AOTY that now allows SUP's. Still no sails and never will. There are dory fishermen who have proved their abilities for many centuries on the open water. So don't give me that crap about it not being safe. Everyone has their limits as to what is safe and reasonable for themselves. Shit, years ago I specifically told two newcomers to stay inside the cove. They didn't and had to get rescued by Sean and Shimmy. That's unsafe and putting others in harms way. Right?????

If it is a non NCKA event, then yes you can do whatever you want.  Like you said, it is YOUR event.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

kay·ak
\ˈkī-ˌak\noun
: a long narrow boat that is pointed at both ends and that is moved by a paddle with two blades

Full Definition
1
:an Eskimo canoe made of a frame covered with skins except for a small opening in the center and propelled by a double-bladed paddle
2
:a portable boat styled like an Eskimo kayak

Shit, that ain't no help!
If he can carry it to the water, sit on top or sit in with a covering around him and propel it with a paddle,  it looks like he's in.

Oh,  And this means that a mirage drive is out. Sorry guys!  :smt001

blah blah blah.......

I used to be stoked just to see anybody else beach launching a craft to fish the kelp beds.  Seen float tubes, prone paddle boards, yaks, rafts, drift boats, and two crazy dudes using a 6' hunk of foam that broke off a dock to float the delta.

lol, seems awfully silly to get all uptight if someone wants to row a dory out instead of a yak. I think the ncka spirit is embodied by the people of which its comprised.....we are the uniting force, not a chunk of plastic.

Craig, I fished off an swimming pool air mattress when I went packing into the backwood lakes of henry coe.  If I ever make it to albion I'm gonna bring some inner tubes and a couple 2x4's to fish off.
..........agarcia is just an ex-kayaker
