Dory in Derbies?

What about dorys or rowboats?

What if a guy wanted to join one of our derbies fishing in a rowing dory?  Wood, 12' long.  Just using oars instead of paddle.  heck Hobies don't use paddles.  We don't allow sails or electric motors but a self-propelled single person boat?  I think it should be OK, but want to open the question up for the group.

The one guy who is asking is a buddy, super good guy, super good champion surfer, and handsome.  Kinda like me.

we all ready allow those  Nu-Canoes and Kayaks with amas, can't really call a PA a  kayak. I'm all for it

I have a 12ft aluminum boat (made by Sears in the early 80s). And as a kid I would row that thing all over Lake Berryessa...usually after the trolling motor battery died. But I could easily row it outta SC harbor and around the corner towards the lighthouse. Would it qualify for derbies too?

I've had the same thought. I have an 8' pram that I can row like mad all over fresh water, but wouldn't try on the salt unless very flat.

I have a 14 foot crestliner trihull........... where do we draw the line? I think, feel that kayak fishing and tourneys require that you have or at least want a kayak. those companies that donate to us do it because WE push this sport (kayak fishing) along. A dory, for me, No. Nu-Canoes Amas etc. Still have a root in the Kayak industry. Sorry Bushy, I'll bring him a fully outfitted fishing Kayak to use or I'm sure he can borrow one from someone. Then who knows, he may like it enough to go Purchase his own (goal met for those companies donating to our group)

AFAIK, the only NCKA directed tourney is AOTY.

Yes I'd be the Director for this tourney. 
But my capricious and arbitrary type decisions only go so far.

My buddy is very cool, and i've already offered him a full kayak fishing setup.  Testing the waters so to speak with this thread.  Weimeriner- if the dory was eligible, the Tri-Hull would be as well.  But you would have to paddle or row it.  Or put in a mirage drive I guess.
