If the craft is powered by rowing, I say yes.

This might be the last year for Albion. Rumors abounding.

What!? I don't like the sound of this.

It's up to the tourney director.

AFAIK, the only NCKA directed tourney is AOTY.
Even that is not officially NCKA anymore.  If it PIF.

Once your buddie finds out how slow he is against A kayak in A tourney I bet he will get one.

Would be interesting to watch him beach launch as well.  What a yardsale it could be!
Launching is easy, landing is where it gets dicey!
Let the dory in but let it get dragged up on the beach before you get close . Thing is heavy and dangerous! [emoji229][emoji51]
**** a bunch of that.

I think if this vessel has the name of "kayak" as its product description. Well then yes, it's a kayak and you can enter it into a kayak fishing tournament. Otherwise, ahhh not so much. 2cents

We navigate the open ocean under our own power on a pretty minimal platform.  When the wind and/or swell pick up or something else unexpected occurs it's on each individual to be able to get back to shore safely.  When someone chooses to compromise that safety balance by going offshore on or in a larger human-powered vessel they are jeopardizing the group and our hard earned rights to be there because they'd need an even greater effort or amount of assistance to get back in safely.  That type of consideration is what comes to mind for me.

How many people have had to be assisted that have capsized in the kayak tournaments we run on the ocean here? I come up with six that I know of.  Four of them at Albion. Then one of them put a power boat in harms way because they chose to assist.

Sails ≠ human powered

yeah with this dude, I'd have no worries in any craft any ocean. He's the type that paddles to Monterey and back.  But, opening up dories for him, who knows what ying-yang would enter next year with a rowboat.  It's hard enough feeling OK about all the kayakers at a derby.

Hmmmm.

That's an important consideration, Bushy.  Who will show up with something other than a kayak?  Those who regularly enter the ocean with kayaks know what they're doing, and I am well versed in what problems they could experience and how they'd deal with emergent and unexpected situations.  With a dory or any other rowboat or canoe I wouldn't be confident in how to assist them or how well they would be able to assist themselves.  That's not something I want to add into the mix.

Maybe there's a reason that there aren't any dory tournaments.  Or are there?

Maybe my attitude is the reason I don't care if there are dory tournaments.   :smt003

I'm now considering all forms of human powered watercraft for Albion just to make it interesting. Because I can. I am king of Albion  :smt003 :smt006 :smt008 Air mattresses. Inner tubes. Belly boats. Row boats. SUP's.
