I enjoyed it. So much going on in kayak fishing its exciting!! Extreme kayak fishing throws some badass prize heavy tourneys!! Blogs are kool.. I voted for shelter... With hesitation to blow up our spot but it is pretty remote. Dig.

It's a interesting vote, I like the idea, what about one specific to the west coast. Would guys be interested in voting more if it was based on our votes on the west only.

Angler of the Year in the state would be great or a cross the west coast.

I accidentally closed my browser before completing the questionnaire. But it won't allow me to vote again until the next round. So could someone please do me a favor and vote for Dan's blog www.theimpracticalfisherman.com ?
Thanks!

I kind of like the idea.  Let me put my thinking cap on ...  it has to include more than just NCKA.

I voted but it seems like BS to me. Nothing personal, but that is the kind of recognition we don't need :smt011  we are better than that.  Sorry Bushy and Polepole, no disrespect, just my 2 cents.

Not sure why I would take it as disrespect.  I have nothing to do with this competition ...

-Allen

Me either, call me naive but I ad never even looked at their website till they told me about the nominations.

I think if we can get the so-cal crowd involved it would be a more even vote and not just a numbers game if you know what I mean.

Over on Facebook, I've read quite a few criticisms of the YakAngler poll expressed by none other than Allen S. I agree with his sentiments. Up to this point, YA's poll has been a low quality popularity contest fueled by spam voting.

The first year, the print magazine I edited at the time won the category with no lobbying from me, and not because I didn't believe in my magazine. As I explained to YA's Mark Watanabe yesterday, wonky results call all of the awards into question. There were other reasons too, but that was the big one.

I'll say this much for Mark and his business partner Adam. They are aware of the problems. This year, Mark says any given browser IP will only be allowed to vote once per round, and not infinite times. As website owners, they are doing a great job encouraging interactivity. Their engagement must go through the roof, but they also have to deal with a lot of drama. It's still a popularity contest, but no longer subject to ridiculous vote stuffing.

I doubt a west coast or Hawaii angler or property will win a category, however deserving, but I'm still interested to see the results. There are far more anglers fishing ankle deep water for redfish and sea trout than there are of us. My Facebook feed the last couple of days is almost exclusively kayak anglers and kayak fishing companies urging their followers to vote.

Someone nominated the new magazine I edit. I sincerely believe the one issue we've published was the best periodical literature yet seen on the sport, but we have a long way to go to prove ourselves. As does this poll. I won't lobby for votes.

Absolutely I'm critical of it.  Still am.  But that doesn't mean I won't vote.  I'd love to see this thing continue in the right direction.

I have/had a number of issues, some addressed, some not.

1) spam voting.  They've addressed this with the IP limiting.
2) Voter dilution with too many in the field.  They've addressed this with rounds that narrow the field up until the final vote.
3) Quality control of nominees.  They let any old has-been in .. including those two Allen's.  This hasn't been addressed.  They maintain the voting till weed things out.  Perhaps it will ...
4) Nomination process is not comprehensive.  You see this in all the questions here, "what isn't such and such on the list?".  This hasn't been addressed.

All that being said, it's much better than in years past.

The first thing is to disclose how nominations occurred, and by whom IMO.

I agree on the mag, Paul. And, no need to lobby, anyone who has seen it would have to agree!  :smt002

It was disclosed.  Anyone could make a nomination during the nomination phase.

It would be interesting to see the nominations. This year, Yakangler 'limited' each category to 30 nominees. I wonder whether they had to cull nominees, and how they went about it.

Obviously, those most engaged will get out the votes. I'm not sure at what threshold informed individual judgment rather than straight-up vote gathering starts to play a part. It's up to the voter to research the candidates. At this stage, they are nothing more than names.

I didn't know they did that.  I'm not a big fan of that.  In talking to Mark, he left me with the impression that they wouldn't do that as culling anyone from the list would be instilling their own judgements upon the whole thing.
