gotcha, thanks. i will just end up sucking it up, and with a majority of the events taking place a few hours south of where i will be fishing that alone drops the chance dramatically. so, onward and upward i suppose.

You think a shark couldn't cut any plastic kayak to shreds if it really wanted too?   :smt004

Linda Mar is my backyard.  I'm bummed now.  Was thinking of leaving work at 3 today and getting a quick evening fish in.  Back to that long a$$ HMB paddle until I can get the guts up to fish Pedro again.  :-(

Who knew Monterey County had so many attacks? :smt012

Yup. And I know for a fact that many people in the local surfing community do not report gws encounters/sightings, for one reason or another. I heard of an encounter at Willow Ck in Big Sur recently that went unreported. I say report it all. Facts are facts. Then let each person make their own, informed decision.

I think chances of surviving an incident on a kayak are much higher than on a surfboard.

You takes chances every day in life. I'll continue to put some trust in thick plastic, secondary flotation, and close by companions.

My prediction is that we'll see an "incident" every summer now, with the number of yaks on the water.

WBTE,
I think most if not all of them ended up in the water. I may be wrong though.

I think most of us think this way. I don't see it as any different than living in earthquake country. Be prepared, don't hang heavy mirrors on the wall over your bed, be prepared, anchor all furniture, have a plan, and be prepared.

Neither the threat of earthquakes or sharks are going to keep me from pursuing my interests when and where I want to pursue them.

I completely agree with Scott on this one.  I am in disbelief every time there's hook up along the SMC coast.  You people are putting yourself at risk and your family's too every time you go out there.  The loved ones you leave behind in the morning before you head off are also affected if something bad happens to you.  Just my opinion since I've been there.  Cockiness gets in you trouble.  Don't invite other people to join you.

Don't invite people, CHECK.

Another reason not to yak or fish off Pacifica/SMC.    :smt013

And that will most likely rise faster as more & more people take to kayaks OTW.
