Ok one more thing. Your original statement never said any thing about loading the boats out or any of the other stuff like You now want to do. Kevin is right. Just open it up to all and see what happens to your inefficient PA. You are trying to CYA about what you thought originally was a no brainer challenge. Now I'm out to dive.

I'm not backpedaling (remember cant do that in a mirage drive!). I believe anyone would last longer over a day with a mirage drive then by paddling. I'm sure you can put a non-fishing 'race' kayak out that would beat a mirage drive kayak to the first point across the lake by more then a margin of an hour right off...this is getting silly now...

Again, my initial point was some benefits of the PA which I thought I was accurate and a value for a newbie looking for information regarding kayaks. As someone with experience in a canoe and in the PA I felt I had information to contribute so I did...I never wanted to upset anyone and I apologize if I have. I wasn't the one that initially made the challenge of paddling longer than pedaling and think the challenge would be fun (After watching that video I'll even drop matching the weight of my PA14...just keep it a yak you fish in)

I thought this was about fun and a comparison and a good cause (the Mooch foundation)...

I never meant to rock this boat and get anyone mad at me...seems like a very sensitive topic and a mine field I stumbled onto...sorry folks-

As this is an argument on which propulsion method is 'superior' (and not which kayak is better) I think it fair that already considering the Pro Anglers 'fat ass' and inefficient lines in the water that the opposing kayaker match my boats  'Hobie' published weight (fitted weight of 138lbs which includes seat, mirage drive, hatch buckets, etc.) with one, two, or whatever it takes sandbags. I'll bring the scale and we can weigh in both kayaks before.

You coming to GS? Bring that barge with ya and Ill race you to the top of the ramp on Wheeleez. Why would I put an additional 50 + lbs on my KAYAK. hahahahaha See you in the surf zone dude.

LOL I heard Malibu was developing a new X-Bong attachment.

Dude, no worries Murf! You definitely stepped into a minefield. I don't think anybody is going to be genuinely angry with you. Some agree, some disagree. And there are so many different factors that go into the pedal vs paddle debate...that it's difficult to even get people to agree which factors should be compared. But in all honesty, your personal opinion would carry more weight if you had experience paddling a kayak. Since you've never even paddled a kayak--it's kind of a moot point. Not trying to be a dick. Just saying that you m/b surprised how efficient certain paddle-yaks can be.

far too many variables. its like arguing that the kayak from my area is superior to the kayak from your area.

I don't fish lakes much, and primarily launch off of beaches with surf. The PA is not appropriate for that. Just as my T140 would not be appropriate for shooting a class 5 rapid.

On lake for trolling, it is probably a nice platform.

there was a point made about dealing with the yak off the water, and that is something often overlooked. My ideal yak would weigh less than 50 pounds.

Anyway, good on ya for stirring it up. :smt002 :smt044 :smt044

That's cheating, bong rips will only give you extra energy.   :smt044

The gauntlet is cash, and my $1000 investment purchased two paddle kayaks that will last virtually forever with little to no maintenance.  How much pedal yak can you buy for a grand?

But I do believe the mirage drive is a more efficient system too (nothing to do with muscle mass) your direction is completely and totally forward with no lost energy pushing to the left or right with each stroke which is lost in a conventional yak. This lost energy , I believe, is significant over a 8-10 hour day of paddling.

You really can't dismiss the fact that you're utilizing the largest, and generally best conditioned, muscles in your body to propel the drive system.  If you had to pump those pedals with your arms I doubt even the strongest guy would be able to hang for very long, making the propulsion system inefficient and useless.
