Don - I am bringing:

1 Hobie AI w/o sail (1 Kayak)
1 paddle & 1 mirage drive
2 PFDs
3 rod and reel set ups, trolling lures.

My wife might come and help.  If there is an extra yak I can do some guiding.

Don - Yes there is 1 electrical box with 4 outlets.  See the gray box on the left attached to white post.

Regs to watch out for: We need SS sinkers for bank fishing, Walmart carries stainless steel sinkers pretty cheap.
Please note that the use of lead fishing weights is prohibited at Quarry Lakes. In partnership with the Alameda County Water District, the Quarry Lakes Lead Fishing Tackle Awareness and Exchange Program was created to educate local anglers on the hazards of using lead fishing tackle and to provide the opportunity for a no-cost exchange of toxic lead split-shot weights and sinkers for lead-free split-shot weights and sinkers

Do NOT Troll on the red area.  Some parts are only 3 feet deep.  The water level is at least 10 feet low this year due to pipe repairs,

OK, help a newb out here fellas.

I'm bringing an extra kayak and gear.  Do we need to bring a rod and tackle for them as well?

Never been to Quarry Lakes - what do you folks who know this place recommend we use to get our folks on some fish? Stainless steel sinkers needed.   Drift crawlers?  Troll flashers and crawlers, small plugs, spoons?  Colors or patterns?

Anything else?

John -

I fish Quarry quite a bit since its only 4 stoplights away from my house.  I always troll and never bait fished there but talking and hearing from bank anglers, Power bait and nightcrawlers seem to produce.
As for trolling, I almost always stick to Rapala J7 and J9.  If I were to pick 3 colors I would use FireTiger, Brown Trout and Perch.  I have tried flashers, kastmasters, spoons but the Rapalas get the most bites by themselves. Putting a dash of Pro Cure Trout Gel I think makes a big difference.
I start by getting my Hobie up to speed and drop my lures about 100 feet back. My FF is set to knots and I stay between 1.5 to 1.8 knots. (Pretty easy on a Hobie).  I don't have a downrigger.

The bite could come with one here and there.  Then there's The Bite time zone when the trout start actively feeding and catch most of my fish with in a one hour time frame. For weather conditions, overcast days with a wind ripple on the surface seem to make the trout go actively feed close to the surface.
I rely heavily on my FF, once I find a school I keep working that general area.
The nice thing about Quarry is its heavily planted by up to 1500 lbs per 2 weeks.  This includes lots of fatties in the 3 lb. to 5 lb. range.

Several trips this year have produced exceptional catches.  Lately, I got skunked on my last 2 trips and the culprit is an algae bloom.  My second to the last trip, the bank anglers were doing well and I got zero trolling.  Conditions that day were not ideal.  No wind, warm T shirt weather plus the algae bloom.

My last trip was the Sat. before the Superbowl.  I heard the bank anglers had a good bite before 10 AM and it got quiet.  I trolled close to 3.5 hours for no love.  Other trollers had the same results.  When the algae bloom dissipates I know the bite will turn on again and that's soon because it can't last forever.

Howdy,

Just checking in...  We have been approved....  :white

and supposedly, fees have been waived... not exactly sure what that means as I do not have the letter yet...

It might just mean the permit and reservation fees which were over $700 bucks, hopefully that will at least cover the entry and car top launch fees... I do not think we will get out of the quagga muscle and fishing permit..again, still waiting...

I think were looking good volunteer wise and even getting some more help kayak wise from Kathy in Lodi,,, bringing in 6 yaks!!!  Gotta love that...

Raydon is in charge of food, so if ya got ideas, stuff or want to pitch in there, give Raydon a shout out...

Long range forecast has been for possible rain, maybe showers, definitely some sort of cloudy weather, hopefully that is all it is...

We'll start to get more detailed here soon and let ya know more when I do...

  Have a Great Weekend!!!   :smt006

EB Parks would have planted 2000 lbs when the event happens.  Despite an algae bloom those trout are gonna be hungry.

I've heard from EBRPD and they have waived most of the fees...  reservations, that was kool,,,

and the entry and launch fees...  were still up for quagga muscle inspection and daily fishing permit...

Just say your with Heroes on the water and it would probably be good if you could print up this parking pass, black and white is fine and leave that on the dash of your car. If you do not have one when ya get to the show, just see me and I'll give you one for your car.

Might be looking at showers....

maybe rain, at least we know how to cure a dry season, just plan a HOW event...  :toothy2:

Try to get your yaks ready for quagga inspection and if does not pass, not to worry, we'll get by...

More to come, gotta run....   :smt006
