My bug out bag is empty because I have a bug out house.

Damn straight.  I can't imagine hitting the road, having no defensive position.  I'm staying put, where all our stuff is.

Can't imagine "bugging out" and having to carry everything we need, indefinitely.  I can't imagine a scenario that would lead to that.

The house is a good defensive position and we have everything we need to get by.   In a vehicle you are an easy target.

Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.

A provisioned blue water sailboat and ocean access would be the best option for truly bugging out.

I can't imagine staying in a city. Of course you would want to have somewhere to go and you'd have to be prepared to get there quickly. If shit really hit the fan, being around tens of thousands of people I don't know, isn't where I would want to be. If the scenario played out where anyone is being aggressive to you, it doesn't matter how many guns you have, a determined attack will prevail against the average home.

I feel that being aware of possible situations and being prepared to alienate your group in a fortified wilderness location is far better than being within walking distance of the general population.

Food:  Good ole MRE's is what is being served at the Squidder K's compound.  I have collected about 6 cases over the last 5 years.

Whats the shelf life of GI MRE?  and where/how can civvies procure cases of the stuff at a time?

I don't have a "bug out bag" and think the whole idea is hilarious. But I do enjoy those post-apocalyptic shows on tv, so it's mildly entertaining to read what other people do to prepare for B-day (bugout day LOL). If something like that ever happened, I'd just grab my kids and setup shop in my office on base @ NPS. Then take bugout vacations to my parents house in Shelter Cove, by ocean. OK now I kinda want a bugout bag too!  :smt005

I too plan on staying put during a 'bug out" scenario, but I do try to carry enough that I could get through a night. i usually have a few advils, some bandaids, a knife, headlamp, stuff like that, in my daily carry pack.
The scenarios I would be most likely to encounter would be fire or large scale earthquake. Either of those may impact my ability to get home via auto.
So my wife & I have walking routes home (which would take overnight but can be done) and a planned meeting spot if cell phones are shut down.

a cruiser sailboat would be my preferred method of escape :smt003

My bag of stuff is for, mainly, earthquake prep. as well.  I'm not AS worried the roads will be shut down as much as they may be filled with a LOT of traffic or I might have to travel on foot.  EOTW scenario, though ALWAYS possible, is far less likely than a natural disaster such as earthquake on our coast.  My "bag" in Florida was for hurricane evac.  Having a few basics on hand for fast travel, to me, is a good idea.

I don't feel the need to bug out. My complex is a gated fortress. All these thugs living around me, even cops are afraid to come in. :smt003

But yeah.. toss sleeping bag and a tent, guns and ammo, case of spam. put truck in 4x4 low and run over nissan leafs and up the hills.

I've been trying to get my girlfriend to practice "Naked and Afraid" so we'll be ready. So far she's not buying it.
