Camo Paint? really?  I hate that crap, use either mudd or take an old wine cork and burn the end of it , blow it out, let it cool and then rub the charcoal on you face.  Breaks up the outlines.

Fire starter/E-tape good ole duct tape.  I carry a SAM splint when hiking it has a hundred uses.  a couple of good ole cravats for slings or splints or what ever come in handy as well.

Food:  Good ole MRE's is what is being served at the Squidder K's compound.  I have collected about 6 cases over the last 5 years.  The one thing I don't have right now is coffee, never enough of that stuff.  Himm need to stash some of that.  Damn taster's choice tastes like crap though.

Having aided in evacuations for hurricanes on the East Coast, Fuel, Fuel, and more Fuel.  Keep your cars at half a tank or more at all times.  Stop by AAA and get plenty of maps, look at the route you are going to take out of the area, and plan for at least 2 alternate ways.  As the main roads will be blocked quickly with people who are clue less and too stupid to get out of the way when their car dies.  Don't run the AC if you don't have too, use your cars heater if you start to overheat.  Why you ask, your heater will dump an extra fan and give or take a quart or two of extra fluid into the cooling system, which can save you from a boil over.

Bring food and water for your pets.

Books to think of having: Ditch Medicine, SF Medic's Handbook (how do you treat GI problems  answer easier than you think. its in the book), plant reciginition.  things like that.

I consider myself more of a survivalist than a prepper.  I look at the leading causes of death and do what I can to prevent those causes.  I eat right and exercise routinely.  I keep fresh batteries in my smoke alarms.  I don't drink and drive and when I do drive I go the speed limit.

My bug out bag is empty because I have a bug out house.  If things get really bad I have property in the Big Sur Mountains behind locked gates with gravity fed water and LOTS of prepper friends.

I do love this topic.  I have read many books on the subject and really feel that keeping my body healthy and fit is the best way to prepare.

This book has some great info.  Not sure if it is exactly what you're looking for.

No bugout bag, no doomsday prep kit, and no intention of making one.
Reading about the level of forethought that people put into this...is almost as scary as pondering the end-of-the-world scenarios, themselves. Nothing wrong with it--I learned a bunch just now. But it's definitely not something that interests me. I guess if the SHTF, I'll just drive my family up to Shelter Cove and live off the land.

I am doubting I will see and "end of world" scenario in my lifetime, but in preparation for the next large earthquake, storm, etc... it's not a bad idea, for me, to have a few essentials in one commonplace ready for quick grab-n-go.  I even have a small kit for the kayak that fits into the smallest Plano waterproof container I could find (just larger than an iPhone 4 & about 2x as thick).

Hahaha just came across this thread.  Not sure how I missed it when it was started.

How bout an update from everyone that's put some kind of bag, pack, bucket, whatever together.

I've got one I call my EDC.  It contains fire starting items ( Fero rods, cotton balls & PJ, tinder) cooking utensils, chicken bullion, a few snack bars, (Small pot Grilliput grill,) small 5x7 tarp, 100' para cord, Mora LMF knife, canteen, canteen stove,& cup, Maglite, headlamp, maybe 60' 30lb braid, small fishing pole & trout tackle a few small "Dry bags", small camp hatchet (Harbor freight)  Recently got a small handheld 2M & 440 (HAM) HT I keep on my work EDC.
Everything is carried in an old small ALICE pace I got in the 80's (Black)
What's not in my pack yet is, extra socks, maybe an extra Tee shirt (Vacuum sealed to keep dry)
I'm sure I'm forgetting some thing.

If El Nino hits big here in the Sac area, I'll put together a bag in each of my trucks so if the river threatens our house we can get out with a pair of 4x4's and kayaks with a week of supplies.  otherwise, I'm lazy...  knives, lighters, allieve, tools and headlamps in all vehicles is an everyday thing..

M4, 21 magazines (Cuz it is CA), MRE's, some fishing line/hooks, mylar, few layers of clothes, water filter, good knife, and fire starter. 25#'s. Good to go for a LONG time.

No plans to bug out. EDC is designed to get me home. We are rural and remote, well stocked, not in any fire danger, and best served staying put. If I was in an urban or suburban area near large population centers I'd plan differently.

Most likely SHTF situations imo are a cascadia megaquake or a solar kill shot/EMP. I'm ready for either of those. We also participate in the CERT program.

Ebola pandemic. Incorporated lock down. Highway lock down. Rural curfew (best case scenario). Don't think about flying. No groceries or fuel going or coming except for what's provided by the government. Compete chaos, all useable resources taken or stolen within a week. Roving groups in locked incorporated areas stealing from those they just killed for resources. As soon as Ebola touches down, I'm out.

I've got a helluva mobile "pack" ready to go.
